have you thought about just lacquering the bare shell as something a little different?

Not sure why it posted the pics twice ....

Desperate to drive it but not road registered.

Very pleased with it is an understatement. Now starts the process of adding the detail to get it period correct.
Jonny, what mirrors will you be going for?

That's the exact colour I want too!

I have a 1:18 model in the exact combination, colour, stripes, quick jacks and roundels

Bare aluminium is a tricky one.

If you polish it you then can't lacquer it as there's nothing for the lacquer to hold onto and it just flakes/peels off. However it's a proper pain in the dick to keep polished. Trust me.

If you scour the surface, then lacquer, it just looks like silver paint as the lacquer fills in all the tiny scratches, but it does hold.

On my latest project (bare alu) I'm scouring the metal with a dishwashing scouring pad and leaving it a dull bare/brushed finish and letting it oxidise. I think it looks cool.

Thread here if you're interested. Skip to the last two pages if you cba with the whole thing as there's a lot of nerdy techy gumpf and spurious waffle.

Fantastic car Jonny, quite a journey too! As a retired toolmaker that workshop Dave has is like heaven to me !!
The care and attention to detail is remarkable.
Carroll Shelby was an innovative and creative guy. With cars like yours the legend lives on.

Hell of a machine

There won't be many that could build one at home to such a standard

Thanks everyone. I have decided to paint it guardsman blue but not sure at the moment where to have it painted as costs vary so much and finding it difficult to know what level of finish to go for. In the day the finish wouldn't have been that good but things have moved on since those days. I'm after an above mid level finish I think. Quotes from £4k to £10k so far.

I do look at the this and think if leaving in bare metal is OK for a Bizzarrini then surely its ok for mine with a bit of a polish.

To be honest at the moment it would just be good to be able to drive it and not just look at it!

The car looks fantastic. You will love it and hopefully the weather improves soon so you can get out and about.

I have car no. 10 and I love it.

A lovely colour. No stripes also the right call I think too.
