Did you say Chav slabs ?
Looks to me that, despite all PH advice not to 'chav it up', that's exactly what you've gone and done.
I have to disagree it's hard for young drivers to have a descent car so they modify them, some worse than others. It's a saving grace SMKurt has stuck to basics " clean and simple" that's what sets him apart from the ' maxpower ' crowd. Looks to me that, despite all PH advice not to 'chav it up', that's exactly what you've gone and done.
I see no 20 inch chrome bling wheels, I see no hydraulics etc etc.
It's making good what can be made good, car 'modifying' is a personal thing so slating what he thinks looks good should be out of the question !
Anyway I like it
But, yes: compared to some others this is quite subtle.
But the young modified scene now could be called "max power ish" because a lot of it is big alloys, body alterations, air filters and smothing parts. But its all very different to the modifications that where made to Civics in 2002 or so. Its the final product that matters, on paper they all sound like they're chavved up but when you look at some of the cars that are coming out of the euro scene then they really are pieces of art (weather you like the scene or not), not just Halfords Ripspeed crap.

Euro Scene cars = art? I'm not so sure you can called stretched tyres an art anyday of the week.

I agree with Kurt on this one.
A lowered Golf or the like on BBS RSs.
I must admit, i did prefer the car as standard. Also 40mm drop on standard shocks is pushing it a bit as your likely to bottom out the suspension.
And i also agree with those saying save up and buy a more sporty car in the future, They told me the same and i didnt listen. Wish i would ahve done now.
I started life with a 1.6 golf MK3, good car in all fairness, did a few little things (like your doing now) airfilter, smoked lights, GTi spoiler. Then i forked out 500 notes for shorter shocks and springs all round, then did the exhaust, and the brakes, and strut braces. All in all i must have spent around 1.2k on the car and thats just the mods over 18 months. Recently i bought a new car. A Honda Accord 1.8i VTEC S.
Not a sporty car, but its 136 bhp out of the box, due to the double wishbone suspensions and fully indipendent rear suspension it holds the road better than the lowered golf did. and its made me realise that spending all the money i did on 'performance' mods didnt give me anything that saving up a bit more and buying a better car couldnt have done, infact it did a lot less.
Dont get me wrong, I love my golf to bits, I still have it infact, but the accord is so much more refined, faster, comfier, better handling, and thats standard.
Trust me when i say this, leave your car as is. one the additional insurance is a massive negative, and the attention from the BiB is also a big p*ss on your chips.
You may think 'well its my car, i like it, i'll do what i want with it' but from someone who's been in that position its NOT worth the hastle or the money, Enjoy the car for what it is, save up and buy something bigger and better next time round.

Joking arn't you! I've had 5 adults in the poor thing and made it over speedbumps with it no problem! Its hardly even noticable from the outside but it does make a noticable difference while driving. Can see what your saying. Yes i know in years to come i'll look back and say exactly as you said. But would you of listened if you where in my shoes? I'll all over with now. Shouldnt be any more money spent on this car. Im very happy with it. I've probably spent about £400 or so on getting it to as it is now. I have the money to do it so i dont mind spending a few £ so that when i walk up to my car every day i have a cheeky little smile to myself.
Typical PH responses eh! I dont mind it though. I'll be old and boring like you lot one day

Ah but whats better, Young and silly with a modified yet still slow (in comparison to many many MANY other cars) car and paying bazzillions of pounds on insurance, or old and boring with a tvr that cost 30p to insure?I know my choice

that's all i've got
Popped into Boys earlier for some spray paint. Thought i'd take a look round the material area as i fancy retrimming some of the interior when i came across some vinyl, £2.20 a meter. I'd thought about wrapping something before so thought i'd buy some for a little practice. Ended up doing a few things with it. Went really well. Bit of help from the hair dyer and it was great. Not the stickest stuff in the world so it was quite hard but im happy. Its different anyway. Marmite i guess. Im in love though. £2.20 a meter so a bargin
Still need to buy some more to finish off the centre console.

Do the wheels in that vinyl stuff. That is definitely a good idea.
Awesome idea Actually don't mind the look of the car, at least you can change most of the mods back easily when the time comes to sell. I'm still in the camp of 'keep it standard and save for your next car though', which is what I've done....although I haven't reached the next car yet Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
