I've replaced the driver side door handle with an ebay 15 quid replacement. Door cards are both back on with some new sealant on the driver side. Everything is working now so both doors open from inside and outside except the passenger door handle microswitch which I forgot to reconnect. I will order some new white trim clips for the passenger side as I broke some and when they arrive I will reconnect the microswitch at the same time. This is the old door handle I removed. Hopefully you can see how rusty it looks. This is where the connecting rod was before it fell apart due to rust.
This thread needs a bit of life.
So inspired by my other 996 having a dead alternator I decided to remove the perfectly good alternator off this car and put it on the other one. This car now has no alternator. My plan now is to replace the y cable which I think is tired and the cause of the lazy starter when the car is hot. Then once this done I will either have the frizzed alternator refurbed or just replace it with new. This is the hole where the alternator once was. And I believe the cable there you can see front and centre which bolted to the alternator must the y cable mentioned. So I just need to figure out how to remove this then replace. I might even consider making up my own replacement from better insulated cable which would last longer. Although if the old one is original then it lasted over 20 years. Not sure I will still have this car in 20 years so maybe I'm wasting my time and energy.

So I made a start on the starter job. Idea is to remove and also refurb and then refit. I think I might replace the y cable also.
Alternator is still off the car waiting for the starter to be done first. I'm hoping that having the alternator out will give me better access to the starter and y cable.
I got the throttle body off in 5 minutes. Then I quickly ground to a halt with the jubilee clips. Hopefully you can see why.
