It just looks odd because it is just a loop and doesn't go to anything - I'm not mechanically minded so I'm probably talking crap...
It does go somewhere - just look to the bottom left where you'll see two rubber hoses connected to it.

As someone said - most likely a power steering cooler.
Transmission oil cooler. Even used the OEM spring clips. Personally I put my transmission oil cooler in the end tank of the engine coolant radiator. This ensures that the water, transmission oil and engine oil are always at approximately the same temperature as the engine oil is also cooled by a water jacket around the oil filter base assembly.

Er, it's a heated towel rail. It's a Lexus after all.

That's the power steering cooler. In my experience, OEM trans coolers are oil to water and part of the radiator. A bit of bent tube wouldn't work for an automatic transmission.

Ah, cool, thanks - It just seemed odd that it didn't go anywhere (to a radiator) and didn't have fins or anything

To answer the question, the pipe is the power steering cooler solution by Lexus .
Now for probably the most boring update photo ever lol , these are the front suspension bushes I have been tackling today , all the suspension is now removed and going for powder coat this week and new bushes are waiting for when it returns

I've just done similar on my car. I had a few stubborn ones that required heat.

The Ferrari. I'm swapping the inner joints for something a bit harder. Some of the bushes were just about welded in.

Keep up the good work on yours - it's coming together nicely.

Have you worked this out after 8 years? laugh

Love this thread, the epitome of the PH spirit. And unlike certain cave related threads, I'm pretty confident this one will deliver!

Going to go and plan pulling my MX5 to bits now.

The powdercoat and plated bits look fantastic, who did them for you?

The powdercoat was done by LSN coatings in Castleford and the plating by Silchrome in Leeds , I’d highly recommend both

Nice to see you're going for the holistic approach, and not just whacking the engine in there and hoping the rest of the ageing components manage not to disintegrate around you.

I'm not sure I would have the patience!
