In the driving video it sounds very different then in the garage video, in the driving video it sounds like you have a leak (or some leaks) were the headers meet the cylinders, but I guess that's because were the camera/mike was near?
GoPro cameras are fantastic things but the sound quality on the move is never the best so I wouldn't really read much into a comparison between a stationary video from a phone and suction mounted GoPro on the road. I believe in the flesh it all sounded exactly as it should have done and the camera was there to catch the important bits wink

Ok, that makes sense. I'll ask if it's still there and see if that can be added. If not I've got got somewhere local that I can go to when I physically have the car. Thanks. smile

Got another batch of pics. Obviously the excitement and frustration is building because the end is somewhere in sight and yesterday was beautiful sunshine and blue skies. Today it's chucking it down with snow so I'm back to being ambivalent again.

Anyhow..

I still think it looks really effeminate and girly without the quad-pod rally lights, chin spoiler and all the race decals but that should be happening now(ish)

Don't know what impresses me most, your patience or the end result. But that looks SPECTACULAR, just superb. You must be itching to take it out
Haha, yes it will be spectacular and yes, I'm looking forward to getting it. I hope I like it because it does appear to be taking shape exactly how I envisaged. It's going to end up a bit "in-yer-face" and a bit "loud and shouty" so I'll probably be stuck with it anyhow.

However, in real life I have no patience and I wish I'd done what you did to get one. Next month will be 4 years since paying a deposit. Obviously last year was a bit of a wash-out for everyone but I would have had no interest whatsoever in waiting 4 years for a car if I knew at the start how things would turn out. However, it is what it is. In a masochistic way I'm sure the pain will be worth it. biggrin

That looks lovely. It seems a pity to put stickers over the paintwork.
I said months ago that this is where I'd stop with the paint/decals.

Nobody listened to me. frown
Based on your post history no one would listen to you.

OP, go your own way, for me the full on decals and paint will look superb.
Haha, don't worry there's no half-measures.

I didn't understand the comment about the holes in the arches but now that I look closer then I see what you mean. There will be the anchor points for the chains that attach from the bodywork to the mudflaps so you can't rip them off reversing up a kerb or, more likely, going backwards through a hedge.

So, on the final stretch now. Decals all coming together. A couple of minor scaling adjustments to be made to a couple before it's all completed but that's just minor details. I've compromised ever so slightly on the side decals but not that anyone would notice and the plan is now...

Some pics of progress below with huge appreciation as ever to the folk at ListerBell for all the hard work and attention to detail. Once the chin spoiler and quad-pod lights are in place then externally it will be pretty much as I had in mind at the start. Maybe slightly OTT but I think it carries it off ok.

I was down at LB on Wednesday, with a mate who was picking up his chassis and this one looked absolutely perfect.

OP, enjoy in great health thumbup
Ah, so it's still there then biggrin Did you get any pics for me? tongue out

Great for your mate. Hope he enjoys the building. I did notice that there were a few folk posting on the build forum that they'd got chassis recently. Red seemed to be a common theme. Hope you got a good nosy around the cars down there in the various states of build. Mine is nearly done. No reason I can think of that I don't have it this month. I'll physically see it again early next week as I'm passing by close enough to take a detour.

It's getting within touching distance so apologies for slight photo-overload. Only real thing left to do is wire up the dash once the bespoke carbon part is completed and fit the carbon airbox. There's probably a lot of work involved in wiring the dash and there's certainly a lot of dials and switches and toggles, but hey... the end is near.

Have to confess that I was buzzing like a wee boy this morning after going to see it. I shouldn't lose it in a supermarket carpark but the irony is that I'm unlikely to be driving it in the dark too often. biggrin

or with a bit of photoshop... smile

biggrin

That’s quite funny. I only took the Ultima to the Club one day and ended up causing a bit of a blockage because I drove up to the barrier to get out the car park but couldn’t open the door far enough to reach the keypad for the exit code and there was a car right behind so I couldn’t reverse and get more room. Looked like a bit of a plonker waiting for a random pedestrian to put in the code to lift the barrier.

I guess with this being LHD I’ll be on the wrong side as well biggrin

Bump for an update??
Not much really. Things in a bit of limbo whilst the shape of the airbox is finalised and the intention is to have this made in carbon, and also while parts for the dashboard arrive. I believe that everything is coming together this week tho.

For the dash, from the outset I wanted a full on Gp4 style dash in the manner of the originals but didn't really want do go down the route of sticking a period replica dash in what is a pretty modern replica interpretation of the original car.

So, this will be an autoclaved carbon dash with the same driver's dial layout as the originals but with a fuel pressure gauge replacing the volt meter display. On the navigator side, rather than fit an old mechanical Halda rally timer alongside a couple of 1970s stopwatches and some dodgy electrical fuses we've gone down the modern interpretation route of a gps derived Brantz rally timer / computer, a pair of matching swiss stopwatches in the same style as the Brantz unit and the necessary pop-out circuit breakers.

The toggle switch labeled STR Mode is the additional toggle to switch between the standard engine map and the full-on pop-bang-crackle-flames engine map.

Carbon dash

Cunning plan

Hopefully some pics of it all coming together asap.

That Italian flag is bigger than my first bedsit!

Great looking garage though, very similar to my next door neighbour’s although his floor is still bare concrete. Do you ever have problems with condensation in the Autumn and Winter...?
The flags simply hide my random filing of stuff on shelves smile

No condensation problems. The roof has an anti condensation coating on it which must have an effect and over autumn and winter I run a desiccant dehumidifier which also must have an effect as well as keeping the place warm.

I originally painted the floor with all the right stuff but being a slacker didn’t really do it properly and whilst it looked great for a couple of years it began to look shabby after that. I’m not really into mechanical tinkering so carpet tiles are cheap, cheerful and ideal for my purpose.

Noticed the planned use of circuit breakers

Posted a while back to another topic about circuit breakers, will post it here, you may already know about all of it

No idea what make of circuit breakers you are planning on, think you'll find their slow blow
Thanks for the info thumbup

To be honest, I've no idea what make of circuit breakers are being used either. I am but a simple spectator in this sport biggrin However, I've every faith that the folk joining the wires know what they are doing and I'll update things when I know more.

Everyone has been too polite to ask…but can you divulge the final cost now it is complete?
Hell no!! You may be undercover and we might be married and if I get run over by a bus you might flog it for what I said it cost wink

Meanwhile these arrived from Switzerland via Belgium.

They probably look a bit too nice to nail to the dashboard but I guess we should stick to the plan.

It's not diluting anything, however, that car has been for sale for a while in a number of places and the price has varied almost on a day to day basis. If I recall correctly the highest advertised price a month or so ago was around £110k or something. The lowest was about half of that. Informed opinion (not mine) is that half again might be more like it. Anyhow, it's one of these things that will find a level for itself somewhere and someone will no doubt buy themselves an interesting new hobby but it's probably a discussion for another thread somewhere else.

More importantly... in other news... It's Coming Home!! (Noooo.... not that!! Remember, I'm Scottish) however, I got notification yesterday that my car is registered, taxed, road legal and should be delivered to me in the next couple of weeks. Exciting times!!

In the spirit of keeping things moving along till the weekend when the car should (hopefully) be delivered... the dashboard wiring is complete. I'm in awe of anyone who can do all this on their own car. So many wires, so much potential for getting it wrong.

Might need some labels on the dash. Don't want to accidentally blind anyone at night trying to turn on the wipers or the like.

Exciting times
