What does a new LS3 cost you then?

ideal base engine for a 427 twin turbo stroker
Having driven one, I don't think I'd go that far. But a new LS3 is indeed a good base for going 7-litre, or some monster LS-7 heads, or....both. I like doing things bit-by-bit, you feel the advantage of each change. I was toying with simply buying a handbuilt LS7 which made 675 horse, but I'm glad to be doing it in stages instead.
I've also had some pics from Craig's phone with some more progress with the rear end. Back on Page 5 you may remember the underneath of the car looked like this:
With the framework that Craig puts on all his RX-7s that have the standard Mazda diffs fitted. But those who have been following the last few pages will know I've got the diff from a Dodge Viper sitting up there (its pictured above) along with some new driveshafts from the States. Time for a change at the rear end.
The disadvantage with that original framework is the way the exhaust has to come under it, which means the rear of the centre box is the lowest part of the car. It meant that my shiny new FEED mid-box I'd brought in from Japan wouldn't fit as it was too large (its the largest mid-box you can get I believe, a foot-and-a-half from end-to-end, to try and keep the car 'track-day-legal') so I ended up with what you see in the picture, which is actually an Edelbrock from a Yank pickup truck [i believe...].
Now Craig is planning to get rid of that left-to-right bar and build the standard subframe into something strong enough to hold the diff and rear axles steady without it. So this is what he has been up to for the last week or so....
This will mean a bit more to those who know what a standard subframe looks like...
I took the FEED mid-box back up there last week as suddenly its in the running again. Good news.

Back axle looks stronger now!
Does the TR6060 require a different slave to the T56? Our Camaro slave has a quick connect extension piece that faces to the rear of the car. Would be easier to hook up to the earlier design with the simple radial extension which accepts a banjo. Which style will you land up using?
Cheers

That sounds like a question for Craig! I haven't even seen the gearbox yet, it was in a box when i dropped the car up to him, and I haven't been back since.Does the TR6060 require a different slave to the T56? I'm sure he'll be along shortly.....ish......

All sorts of wants!
when its in i wonder how different the weight distribution is over a standard rex???
We will find out....when its in i wonder how different the weight distribution is over a standard rex???
The new diff is ally, by the way, so despite looking a lot larger, i think its actually lighter?
Or maybe that was the Cobra diff? I can't remember now.
I'll be up there on Saturday, and can't wait to see Craig's face when I start trying to weigh this Viper diff, a standard Rex diff, this new subframe, and a standard Rex subframe.....
As i said on the last page, a little more weight over the rear would be no bad thing at all. The V8 did move the weight forward a touch, and getting out of corners with 475 foot pounds instead of the 340 I used to have (as a single-turbo rotary) is definitely harder (though its probably not slower, you just have to me more careful). There'd be a case for adding ballast over the rear axle, the extra power and torque would handle it fine. People used to put bags of cement in the backs of Capris, after all.
