Pressing job done.
I spent a good half an hour trying but for the life of me, I couldn't see how it would clip in and stay secure so I ended up using glue.
It's heated but not dimming like the original. Didn't fancy spending nearly 10% of the value of the car on a bit of glass.

Your doing too much to take it out of shedland! A true shed only gets fixed once it fails mot on a item haha.

Ha. I'm done with it cosmetically now.

Next job is DIY exhaust.

I have no idea what that is but from what I've seen, remove secondary cats and straight pipe it from there.
Lpg tank means I can only have a single exit exhaust so no amg style tips.

Could you not run a second pipe from just behind the other exhaust tip basically behind the bumper rather than from further back? Not sure you would want too nor make it look better but it is a option.

I don't actually want anything visible so hoping to just have no tip showing ( laugh)

This is what I keep seeing everyone has used but I can't find it or anything similar in the UK.

If you just want some noise on the cheap unbolt the back box?

I had a bmw 730i v8 where I just removed the exhaust from center box back, gave me a loud rumble and easy to put back for mot.

Whole car was £300 so refused to spend a penny on it yet needed noise.

Edit: if you still want a back box but noise then you could go for the old school cherry bomb for cheap

Remove the back box?
I just assumed doing things like that would make it sound like a wet fart.

Not really when you have a good engine behind it which you aren’t lacking. I personally reckon a v8 can pull off basically any sort of noisy exhaust, a lot more tricky with 4/6 bangers.

Just take it off and test it for a drive and see what you think, costs nothing.

Poor video of my heaps exhaust

This is my e65 missing both cats (scrappy took them before I bought the car)

No doubt it'll be welded/rusted together but I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Thanks.
It's all about risk/reward. I know an absolute minimum I'd get for it is £500. The mot expires in October so I have 4 months to play with it and if its a catastrophic failure, it gets listed on ebay as spares.

Don't worry about a X-pipe if it's too much of a pain.

The internet quite liked my LS400 on seperate pipes per bank back in the day:

Haha. That's a bit louder than what I want. Bloody rain has meant I haven't been able to waste an hour of my life working out why I can't remove the back box.

Hot spanner and a lack of sympathy is probably what's needed...

I can have both however i'm not really sure having the 2 pipes just flapping around under the car is such a good idea as I guess the hangers are for the backbox.

This is the setup.
Seems back box then a resonator behind it?

Those bolts are 100% not coming off.

Gut feeling is that unless you are prepared to buy some generic pipes and sleeving it's not worth the hassle at this stage.

If you are prepared to buy some bits... Jetex do some good off the shelf bends, sleeves etc - taking that approach you could cut it off before the flanges and fit whatever you fancy....
