Thanks for the comments smile

Welding started today! Always the frustrating bit as it never looks as good as you hope...

The first two pieces are now in, next is the floor patch for a similar butt joint repair.

Then I'll get back on with the inner reinforcing, which I've been ignoring because it's hard!

Floor now all welded in.

The mess in the middle of the repair is the remains of the plug welds through the panel up onto the sill inner. The rest of the mess is just my welding! smile

Floor/sill end/heelboard repairs in place.

I need to clean this up a bit and get rid of the ends of welding wire.

Should all disappear under a coat of paint! smile

Very nifty metalworking there, I can only imagine how tricky it must be to get the parts the right size/shape.

Lovely car by the way.

@Northandy Thanks, Trouble is I aspire to a standard of sheet metal work I have witnessed but cannot achieve smile It will do for the next ten years smile

I got a good bit of work completed this afternoon, bit more cutting out, bit more fabrication, bit more welding!

Floor/Sill/Engine bay inner panel welded in and soaked with weld through primer so it won't rot out in 5 minutes. There is a small hole above this section that you can get to after assembly, so I intend to pump this section full of oil!

The inner reinforcing is a complete arse of a panel to make, but got there eventually. Spot the useless hole for plug welding. I got carried away with the drill.

The plug welds at the bottom will get flushed back to make a good surface for the final flange dropping down from outside panel.

Next job. The heater tube. Another section I've been trying to avoid. frown

Hopefully soon I'll get to drive it again, rather than stare at the mess underneath...

Gary I'm sure with time you'll get there, however don't estimate yourself that's still good work.

I long for the time I have a garage and project to work on.

Thanks, Any of the decent stuff is a combination of Nikon D70, D80 and for about the last year a D300S. All much better than I am, just to make sure I can't blame my tools! smile

Did you get get any shots on the black beast 911 without the naked dude standing in the way?

Thanks again smile

I must admit to later cropping that shot down as it is in the directory I use for my screen saver pictures and it was freaking me out!

The black car is a '77 Carrera 3.0 that has been backdated to an early look with a few outlaw touches and a 3.2 engine!

I haven't any other pictures myself, but this is one I borrowed from DDK. It's owned by a true petrol head and throughly decent bloke (not the naked dude, although he is as well having a '74 Carrera!)

LOL... Gary its me! Dyno!

This is my alias on PH. Sorry I thought you knew it was me (not sure why). smile

I hope I can get the same results as you with my D90.
Any more of your work from CLM available? If you have a link to better quality shots of the event I'd appreciate it.

Many happy hours of metal bashing later it's finally coming together.

After beating this bit of 1.5mm steel into this complex 3D shape those pressed repair panels you can buy look good value now wink Still where's the satisfaction in that? smile

Final trial fit.

Now all painted up inside and out and drying off overnight before final welding tomorrow.

I need to make the bush backstop flange for inside the torsion tube and then get back to the jobs I should have been doing this winter...

Thanks Rob, Your 944 is coming on nicely as well smile

It's now welded in.

After days of panel bashing, trimming, bending, nibbling and grinding the ten minutes of welding at the end is bit of an anti climax

Now off to do some linishing and try and make it look factory (ish) again.

Finally finished all that horrible welding and grinding and covered all my work in muck!

Suspension is now back on the nearside:

Next job is to pull the gearbox off and start on that. Fix the reversing light microswitch, new clutch, split case and reseal, and maybe 2nd gear dog ring / selector ring depending on what I find as I can beat the syncro relatively easily, and the syncro itself is new (ish!)

One day I may even get it back together wink
