The car is home! New plcd sensor and new SMG relays.

Going on a 200 mile drive later!
Ahhh, the post 'job done' joy is lovely and hope it lasts.

Surely you're going to absolutely frang it before heading back to give it a clean and put it on AT?..... wink

Hope it stays fixed smile

Hopefully it’ll stay unbroken.

Did the latest episode cause my damage to your wallet?

Thanks guys.

Just over £600 for the part and labour which isn't too bad really.

The car is still running spot on. When it's running this well it does make me wonder why I want to sell it. The V10 sound is the best sound around, the car itself does everything I want from it, though could be faster, but then does it really need to be faster these days?

They're going up in value but is it a bubble?

It would be nicer if it was cheaper to run and had DCT, but that's a £10k option at the moment and I don't think it is worth that!

A second car would be nice, but as I found last time I didn't really need it and was ultimately an exercise in wasting money.

Oh what to bloody do?

ETA: if I did sell then I would buy something cheap for 6 to 12 months and then look to get back into something performance orientated, saving some money would be nice. I worry about regretting selling it as well.

You'll regret selling it especially while you're driving around in something not as inspiring but it will make you go & get something else.

I sometimes crave more power for my VXR8 but a good blast down a B road reminds me that 500bhp is more than enough for anything but the odd slip road or carriageway where agreeably you can never have too much power.

Keep it!

Sell it. Procrastination is never a good look and life’s too short.

It’s just a car, it’s just money. If you totally loved it you wouldn’t keep thinking about selling it. I’d book some time off, go for a hoon as a send off and get it listed.

If you look at the way M3 CSL values have gone I would hold onto it! Great to hear it's running well.

Op, your relationship with the car is a proper example of a love / hate relationship. It’s a very special engine and one that we’ll never see again.

My gut feel is that these are old and special enough that they'll tend to hold or rise in value. I can see newer more generic fast cars seeing a drop, but say in ten years' time when all new cars are hybrid / electric only, I think an F1-inspired V10-engined saloon will be seen as something special and worth at least what it is today.

THIS. Couldn’t agree more.

If it’s working perfectly then it’s the ideal time to have a wonderful final adventure then bang it on PH Classifieds.

I agree, it’s also the last of the naturally aspirated m5’s, at the time bmw could have stuck two turbos on the v8 engine and got more grunt, but they did it the way they always did at that time, high revving naturally aspirated, also if you look at the prices on eBay for an engine alone their basically 8k, in my opinion there’s only one way in price these are gonna go, up!

The idea behind something less inspiring is to reduce my costs for a bit! Over winter I don't think it's a major issue to have something a bit more boring.

More power isn't always necessary, but it is sometimes! And sometimes more fun.

This is very true, I don't think I do totally love it. I think I lost some of it during the time it took to get the engine rebuilt. 9 months and the cost wasn't fun.

My car is approaching 100k miles. I can't ever see it getting to high values. Also not sure it'll get there with its "past".

IKR! hehe Joking aside, it actually isn't too bad, it's had some small issues along the way.

I suffer with anxiety (in treatment for it). I do just fancy moving to a newer, modern car in the long run.

If I could afford to keep it and have something else I want, keeping the M5 in the garage, then I would, but sadly I cannot.

All that could be very much true, but high mileage cars won't benefit from the increases, I cannot see it.

I don't think that this will apply to high mileage cars like mine, with a past like mine though sadly.
