inject at a higher pressure for better atomisation
advance the timing of the injection so you get more work from it
various things they do but a simple box generally does the first, when acceleration is requested the box tells the ECU fuel rail pressure is low so it overcompensates.
at low revs you wont be running full fuel pressure, by increasing it you can boost low down pull. More fuel per injection but the increase in torque means you can be a gear higher to inject less times.
that's how i understand it anyway

The trip computer doesn't know that more fuel is being injected per cycle.advance the timing of the injection so you get more work from it

Why would Dacia not pick this up during testing, if it's such an easy software fix? I assume there must be some trade-off, otherwise it would come straight out of the factory with that tune (for economy in particular).
It's highly likely any flat spot is to pass some quirk of the emissions testing process.ch37 said:

Probably for some very specific emissions testing rules and possibly fuel quality variation?Talking of shoity fuel, my first tank of E10 is showing noticeably worse mpg during similar to the last tank (E5) driving conditions.
I didn't think why until reading tha a lot of motorists are complaining of lower MPG.
Seeing as there is less petrol in it, I wouldn't complain if it was cheaper to buy.

Lower calorific value - I think I may be correct in saying they slightly reduced fuel duties in Europe after switching over.Seeing as there is less petrol in it, I wouldn't complain if it was cheaper to buy.
Perhaps E10 is more of a quiet fuel duty rise than an environmental change? I'll fetch the tinfoil.

Looks like a bargain to me! Everything in the second hand car world is so expensive at the moment.
You need to give us a full report on the Somerset adventure.
She went like a dream. Is comfortable and more than kept up with traffic at 80-odd. In the negative column was only an absence of admiring glances. I suspect in time that I will take a bit of knowing approval but who cares when you can push your foot into the carpet and ride the (Garrett) wave. The fun runs out at 3.5k rpm but honestly which four cylinder diesel turbo can give more? You need to give us a full report on the Somerset adventure.
I only went to the Cotswolds today but if you told me that I had to set-out for the Hundu Kush tomorrow morning then I would have no qualms in taking the Duster.
