Great balance.

No idea If this is bad or good??

If you have a look at the second picture, especially if you can magnify it, just where the suspension bracket is joined to the chassis, there looks to be the start of a crack.

It could be an optical illusion but to me it looks ominous.

I'd be getting underneath it with a brick hammer on the chassis just to see if its all as solid as you hope, just so you are not forever chasing a hopeless case.

Cheers,

Tony

I'm a bit less confident when it comes to things like cutting the exhaust so can anyone assist with the steps?
I'll need to cut the brackets holding the pipes to the back box, can I use a grinder or even my multi tool for this?
Will I blow myself up?

In doing this, will it make it drone like crazy inside?

I would try and remove it all then do cutting as you have fuel lines etc, sparks. But if it was ne I would just pay a backstreet garage to do it.

The issue is, it seems to go up and over so many different things along the car.
The botls etc are completely rusted.

Nut splitter, penetrating fluid will get the off or heat. I've used pay as go self service garages before for ramps.

Worst job ever!
Thankfully my neighbour (the fire one) pretty much done it.
Amazingly, it's actually quiet on tick and unless accelerating, it makes no noise.
When you floor it, it sounds like thunder!!

Love it! Where abouts did you end the exhaust? In the middle before back box or even earlier?

Right where the back box joins the 2 pipes.

Obvious thing to do now, couple of pipes at an angle for a nice side-exit biggrin

This cost me a case of beer. I'm not spending anymore than that!

Loving the burble when driving around. Just a shame the brake squeak is louder.

Definitely worth just leaving it like that until the MOT runs out!

Could pass the mot as it’s only the back box. Just depends how loud it really is and if your mot man cares.

I was thinking about the mot but there can't be a law that states you have to have a back box or the exhaust has to be a certain length.

All the cats are still there and I remember seeing a car with lpg and the previous mot said no emissions test due to lpg.

Oh and hit this when I got home.

Backbox is purely for noise reasons, up to the mot tester to say it’s too loud. Never seen one ever use anything to actually measure more so his own discretion.

I’ve previously passed with a straight pipe from the turbo out the back, pre cat due to age but noise would apply.

https://www.vehicle-certification-agency.gov.uk/fc... - I guess it depends on how loud, how picky.

Thanks.

Do they record noise on idle? If so it won't be an issue. Either way, I imagine I'll have some more pressing issues to be worrying about.
