It's entombed in PPCs place in Corby. They've fitted new doors narrower than the RR and can't get it out. They're moving soon so I don't know what will happen to it!

Sooo, after the Motorpunk track day at Blyton Park a few things needed to be sorted.
Managed to smoke all 4 tyres, so adaptors from Superforma to allow Porsche 19" wheels with 275 section tyres to be fitted.
Old wheels and tyres.
New wheels and tyres.
Had to fettle the rear adaptors to get them to fit.
Also all 20 wheel nuts had to be machined to 60deg
Wheel arches cut to accomodate the extra width.
The wheels are Porsche Cayenne. These were chosen as Bentley wheel pcd is unique. The oem wheels have an ET of 41mm, the adaptors have to be 40mm min. The Porsche wheels have an ET of 60mm, so only 21mm extra "track".
The brakes had fried, so new seals for all 6 callipers! Look at the state of these....
So to prevent further heat problems, water cooling for the brakes. Front is easy - the pipe points the jet of water at the inside of the vanes of the vented disc.
Here it is being tested.
Water is supplied using a windscreen washer pump.
The rear brakes were a bit more difficult as they have solid discs. Got around this by drilling some Kunifer pipe with 8 holes and bending it to shower the disc from the outside.
New pads and the mother of all brake bleeds tomorrow...
To get the hot air from the engine out a bit better made some spacers to lock the bonnet about an inch high at the back.
And a proper bit of Motorpunk kit. Machmeter!!
New harnesses installed. Hopefully finished everything tomorrow. Then off to Castle Combe on Friday.

Was lucky enough to share track and parking space and have a good chat at Castle Combe. I can confirm you car is both bonkers and fantastic in equal measure, I salute you Sir, Quarry corner takes on a whole new light with this bearing down on you!!
Look forward to seeing how she progresses.

I can confirm that Bentley Turbo R racing is fun.

Good luck with the build.
I bet that Mini on the right of pic had a terrifying day! <snip>
Good luck with the build.
Imagine braking with those monsters in the mirrors!
Have you tried the Bentley around Haunted Hills yet?
To the OP : classic madness. Well done.
Hmmmm.. so much for brake cooling! Front pads after 4 x 15 min sessions at Castle Combe.
Oh, the front tyres too...
How to scare a Caterfield...
So the next thing is weight loss. The rest of the trim, plastic windows, some bits of metal chopped out, lightweight battery, sling out cruise/seat/hevac/central lock ecu's. Door actuators and lift mechanisms, replace petrol tank with a plastic cell.
Add new 30lt water tank for the brake cooling, as the 6 lt I had didn't last any time! I will probably junk the windscreen washer tank and plumb it into the brake tank. Rebuild the callipers again. Need to talk to Hispec about some 380mm discs and twin 4 pot callipers.
I would say, however, that the new wheels are a success. I just need lower profile tyres. Now looking at 305/30.19 to replace the 275/45.19 - this will also lower the gearing by around 10%, and lower the whole car by about 35mm. I need to put back the original front springs I was running at Blyton, but add some spacers so as to get a similar ride height but higher spring rate.
Despite the very warm weather on Friday, the engine was fine, although the trans got a little miserable and threw up a "check gearbox" message. So I looked underneath, and yes, it still had one. So I ignored the message and it went away after a day or so.
Longer term plans include taking out the whole dash and hevac. The I will fit a Vintageair heat & a/c unit and probably a Stack dash. That should save anything up to 50kg.. Plus a few words with Ian Curley about him making me a carbon fibre roof.
Then there's the subframe mounts, the lsd, shox, and more...

30 litres of water is alot extra to carry and will obviously affect your braking. Is there not an option for bigger brakes or some cooling ducts for cold air to them?
Good point. But it will empty pretty fast - just like the petrol tank! Bigger brakes are on the list and some extra air. But it will still need the water cooling.Anyway, I will be able to brake a lot later - which is how you get in front with this car.
Another point is that 20/30 kg/lt is not a lot in a 2 tonne car!
Thanks for your input.

In comparison to what's still to be removed from the car on the list above, it'll still be lighter afterwards even with 30kg+ of water on board - at the beginning of a track session. mk2 24v said:
Those pads, bloody hell
Definately time for a brake upgrade then
As for the tyre sizes, have you got the rolling radius specs for either of those tyre sizes?
As my simple head calculator doesn't see the wider tyres as much (if any) of a smaller radius
Well, Paul, it shows you don't drive fast enough,eh?Definately time for a brake upgrade then

Present tyres arem 275/45.19 - a bit bigger than stock in radius. New ones will be either 295 or 305/30.19 about 70mm smaller in diameter, so 35mm on the radius. About 1 1/2" in real measurements.
The Mintex M1144 pads are brill on the road, so may go for 1155 for track use.
There are some NOS R888 305/30.19's on Ebay at the mo'. Hopefully they can be scored for a decent price.
BTW, only 97db@ 3500 rpm - not bad for an almost open exhaust!

I'm such a fan of this build. Really want to do it myself someday.
Rear wings on Turbo Rs are hard to find.
Someone has done the old Plymouth Road Runner style.
.
this is the cummins diesel powered car that lives in Harrogate. its a work of art, a very neat instalation, it would have been better (in my opinion) had the exhaust not poked up through the bonnet, but the owner is an old school hot rodder and that's what he likes!Rear wings on Turbo Rs are hard to find.

it sounds fantastic, has a real smooth rumbley whistle to it
Would love to know more.

Haha, I only have 1430kg of car to slow up though, not 2200kg Present tyres arem 275/45.19 - a bit bigger than stock in radius. New ones will be either 295 or 305/30.19 about 70mm smaller in diameter, so 35mm on the radius. About 1 1/2" in real measurements.

97db is not too bad, but then that centrifugal silencer up front will play a big part of that when stationary
I've not had much luck with the 1144 on road, they squeal like a bd for me. But more than adequate for the track days I've been on
Forgot you had gone up in radius with those german wheels and tyres, the 305 tyres should make a nice difference.
And the tyres on mine and Russells Minor both looked like the pic of your one after track sessions. Usually clears off after a few miles on the road of sensible driving :P
