1989 Toyota MR2 Mark 1
Discussion
A bloke is coming over tomorrow and it looks like he may buy the MR2. Fingers crossed.
I drove it this morning - it's such fun. So zizzy, and pointable. It's everything that the MAX POWAH PH massive would deplore. It's light, it's nimble, it has a relatively low BHP total, it has not very big wheels and tyres, it's a bit scruffy, it has no satnav and only a basic stereo. It has no cupholders, unless you make a special friend, and no power steering. It's everything that people who like actual sports cars would admire. I will miss blatting about in it.

I went to a show in mine on Monday. It was the first time I'd driven it for several weeks due to work taking me away to the depths of Hampshire, and having time away from it just confirmed that I've done the right thing buying it and investing in it. I've probs spent close to the same amount on it as I paid for it, and I have no regrets. I'm much happier to spend money on that than I am on the Boxster.I drove it this morning - it's such fun. Hope you don't miss yours too much, but they aren't expensive if you do and decide to replace it.
A shame you're selling it, I've enjoyed reading this thread. After a Europa Twink and two mk2 MR2s, I fancied a mk1 - those I've driven were great - but decided the time has passed for this old git. The GTV is going in lieu of a XJS running project.
If you change your mind in time to come, hopefully you won't have to spend £daft to get another.

Two pleasant young blokes turned up in a van. No quibbles, no haggles. Agreed price paid, and off they went (with a set of spare wheels in the van). I will miss the car, but onwards and upwards.
Where was it advertised, if you don't mind me asking? Seemed like an easy sell.Carandclassic, and eBay. The buyer paid the "buy it now price" on eBay.
It is hard to gauge the effect of the Pandemic on the classic car market. On the one hand, many people are short of money, but on the other hand many people are bored and looking for outlets. I have this week sold the Toyota and a 1981 Sherpa campervan, both for what I think are reasonable prices. I am (only just) resisting bidding on a very good Matra Murena that's on The Market auction site.

Sold my Mk1a MR2 recently too, lots of response in under an hour of advert for asking, no haggle & easy peasy.
I think they will appreciate in value, is pretty much the only interesting car of that age that hadn't, is why personally I wanted one before they shot up like an e30 325 bmw or a mk1 golf gti etc.
During the UK lockdown my local classic car dealer sold out his stock completely! He's lower end affordable end classics stuff like this or a Standard 10 or Moggie Minor, Ford pop etc.

That does look nice. I didn't know that LJKS was a Murena fan. Edit, the video has just played the audio of it starting. Doesn't sound good to me.

The Murena went for 7010. A mega bargain. I resisted.
They had two, or more, listed?https://themarket.co.uk/listings/talbot-matra/mure...
£9200, or that's £9200 inc. the auctioneers mark up?

Yes, thanks indeed, and the supercharged JDM Mark 1 would also be my top choice MR2.
JDM supercharged you say?![](https://thumbsnap.com/sc/i7QUcBv3.jpg)
Bit late to the party and surprised I missed this thread. And it appears I have missed the car. You mentioned that it was similar to the Europa and this is funnily enough what my dad thought and led to him selling the Europa and buying the NSX as he had dismissed Japanese cars before trying my Mk1(the N/A I had before this one). Glad to hear you liked the car BV.
And hello to Seiben (?) : why did you sell the SE? Hope all well with you!
