And as a quick update from someone else’s work, a big thanks to PHer Chris, I’m not sure of his PH name but he is @racerdesigns on Insta and when not busy doing graphics for an F1 team has very kindly been helping out with livery layout!!

Hi Steve great thread, really nice project. I need to catch up on the build.

I sore this post, I run a vinyl wrap company. I'd be more than happy to discuss making those renders a reality if your interested.

Thanks Andy

So because of lockdown we are unlikely to get out on track for first testing until lat February at the earliest which has got me stressing somewhat but on the upside I was talking to Pete and Chris at Center Gravity and it turned out that they had lost a few bookings because of the current situation so I’ve been able to get the car over to them and the suspension setup and geo is underway cool .

Hopefully we will have that done in the next week or so and then can get it back to keep working on the list of details as we count down till when the circuits can open again!

There is a chance I might be able to help with this mate...

It is what racing partners do!

Watching with interest, nice to see a racecar being born, as opposed to the chavved up roadcars pretending to be racecars we see a lot of
Poster from another thread: I’ve just fitted KW Competition-Racer coil overs, bought a new set of slicks and fully gutted the interior. The seats are horribly uncomfortable and I no longer have AC or radio but these things will all really help get my lap times down.
PH: Great! How many track days are you planning on in the next 5 years?
Poster from another thread: Two
PH: Yes that makes a lot of sense.

So just lots of waiting for the last week or so grumpy .

The car has been at Center Gravity and they finished all their setup but we needed a pair of extended track arms are were also waiting on new rear wheels to allow the clearance we needed.

But everything should be ready for Monday hopefully and then I can keep working down the list of jobs that need doing/completing.

It’s staggering how long some of these tasks take, I was off for two weeks at Christmas and spent all but two days in the workshop but the results really are not obvious getmecoat .

Mounting an extinguisher on a very not-flat floor takes ages!

And then getting the nozzles into an engine bay that is more than just a bit tightly packed is also pretty tricky

I’m hoping to have some HD kit on loan off Racelogic but in the meantime I’ve got the all important V Box mounted up and I’ve managed to adapt the redundant airbag wiring to get the timer display onto the steering wheel. I also made a panel for the extinguisher pull and power kill which will have room for any other switches etc that I may want to add.

Bonnet pins are fitted -

And towing eyes -

And the suspension canisters are mounted but I still need to fire protect the rear ones as they are within the cabin -

Still lots to do but we’re still waiting till mid Feb to see if they can reopen the tracks again so there’s a bit of time in hand yet and then we can go and see which bits work and which bits don’t yikes

So it’s currently looking like early March before I can start testing the car and the first race is late April; plenty of time if it all goes smoothly but nowhere near enough time if it doesn’t boxedin .

In the meantime I keep tinkering with all the little jobs that need doing and I have acquired one of the last big parts of the jigsaw -

Dunno, six pots, shiny discs etc biggrin

Not sure of the exact sizing tbh, they are a used set of calipers off a 987 rally car, it’s been a well tested solution that should work out of the box, hopefully laugh.

I’ve ordered a set of F4R Mintex pads for it as they generally work well for longer races.

Had to remind myself this is a base spec 2.0 Cayman as it looks more GT now that a GT4!

Yea, hopefully it’ll end up as a budget version of a GT4CS with a bit less power.

Most of the handling and running gear should be up to spec but there will always be things that we can’t practically replicate like specific track oriented programming for ABS etc. Unfortunately even at club level we will sometimes be up against factory built race cars in series that are supposed to be road production car based rolleyes .

The ABS on the 987.2 is excellent on 1A or slicks. Never had an issue, so hopefully your 718 is the same.
