I drove my IFA's "Taycan Cross Sport Truism Turbo" ... *breathe* ... a couple of days ago.
My first EV experience.

What a great car!
Performance was, IMO, astonishing.

He's had it since Jan and has covered 16k km so far, without issue.

Car looks awesome and glad you had a good charging experience in my town (Portishead!).
Ups and downs, the charging stop was pretty much as perfect as one could imagine, however the ambience of our chosen lunch spot was shattered when I (looking like a crazy person) ended up chasing a particularly bold seagul following it's attempted purloinment of my pasty. I say tried because despite it managing to grab the packet it lacked sufficient motive energy to fully take off with the increased payload and I was able to intercept and reclaim lunch.

Funny you should reply that week as I'd only just got around to ordering them, they really are great, I didn't even realise they clipped into factory mounting points.

Enjoyed the write of up of the trip, very impressed you got all that gear in.
Mine didn't have clips, glad you're liking them smile

I had to charge mine at Chippenham about a week ago - max I got was 88kW (all 4 chargers in use) which was very disappointing compared to Collumpton. Out of interest what speed did you get?

I’m starting to find it quite annoying at IONITY chargers when I have to wait because there are cars with a max rate of 50kW rate using them and they sit there for a full charge. Very frustrating when I can be almost empty and basically done in 24mins. I feel like I’m becoming an EV snob…… because I’ve got a £100k car with a high charge rate I should somehow be entitled to just turn up and charge instantly. First world problems and I hang my head in shame…..

I think a lot of the charge speed stuff is, as you point out, down to the chargers in use vs the grid capacity. I read a lot of the new stuff has a battery backup on site which boosts the speed, but obviously only lasts so long.

As I remember I was about 30-40% SOC when we got to Chippenham so probably got 175-200kW peek.

Definitely recognise the point about waiting for slower charging vehicles, I think it's a larger problem for Ionity because of the combination of the high top-end speeds, the reputation for decent reliability but mostly because of the way they're funded. It seems like a lot of manufacturers have done deals with them (in the same way Porsche did) so they're disproportionally used.

When Tesla started opening up the Supercharger network a lot of the veteran (or at least, dare I say it, less tolerant) owners started decrying the influx of the unwashed EV masses and their lack of charger etiquette using up their network. In reality, I suspect with Ionity as with Tesla the real impact will be from commercial vehicles. There are lots of them, the duty cycle is high (so they use a lot of power) and they rely on public charging and they tend to charge (relatively) slow - 125kW peek in a lot of cases.

In the majority of visits I've made to Ionity or Gridserve charging stations recently there has been one or more van (often DPD, I think they have Ionity fuel cards) charging. If the Tesla folks are worried about what normal car drivers will do to their charging experience, I imagine (to my amusement) they'll get pretty short shrift from a commercial delivery driver who is in a rush laugh

I think it would be a Taycan Cross Turismo, or a Taycan Sport Turismo. The former is slightly jacked up with plastic over arches, where as the latter is an traditional sports estate like an Audi avant or BMW 3 series touring.

Glad you enjoyed it - I agree in most trim levels the performance is certainly sufficient!

Long may it last smile

From my end following that trip to Wales I've been using the car as an excuse to drag my first born to every car meet we can find.

Collecting Cars meet @ Mercedes Benz World (further progress was understandable barred to anything not born in Affalterbach).

Next the B Road Hunting Club did a Porsche event and @felt_tip_felon got this awesome drone shot of the car:

Following that, up to Bicester Heritage for the Scramble with my brother (e92 M3):

It's a great event and venue, highly recommended.

Turned out we parked just down from fellow Readers Cars contributor and PHer @TheAngryDog and his E60 M5:
