Question for those who have or had one - what else did you consider as I'm a muppet for focussing on something then on the drive back when I've collected it seeing something I never even thought of.
For me, I decided that it was time to try RWD and I also set the (rather strange I admit) requirement that my new car had to have more cylinders than the outgoing one (2.5T Focus ST), so I didn't have a lot of choice really. I wanted a new car (for the warranty/piece of mind) but did have serious thoughts about a 2nd hand C63 as a friend has one and was kind enough to let me drive it. The engine is sublime and the noise hugely addictive however I couldn't stretch my budget to the cost of a decent low mileage one.

I did think about relaxing the engine/cylinder restriction which brought the S3/Golf R/Leon Cupra into contention and I did briefly look into an A45 AMG - I didn't test drive any of these options as I never got close to the point of thinking of them as viable alternatives. At the end of the day my main reason for change was to experience RWD and that left the M140 as the only real choice. Couple that with the very good discounts available and it made the choice quite simple.

Those are the usual suspect smile

I'm a bit cold on the S3 but I may go look in the dealers on the way home tonight.

I've had a Golf 7 so a Golf R is a bit groundhog day and I'm not a fan of the Leon.

That's the thing with the M it seems a little unique. My problem is more I can wake up one day and think "fk it I want an SUV" smile

^These are (mostly) my reasons too.

Not 4-pot
RWD
Quick
Petrol
5dr
Small(ish)

I couldn’t think of anything else that fit the bill. Test drive confirmed it was the right choice.

Mrs FWIW wanted a Bini (it will be her car). Phew!

Right specs..

Looking at a shadow edition auto with

Adaptive suspension
Pro Nav
Heated seats (amazed it's not standard)
Metallic
Speed limit display

Anything else people would consider "must have"? I may add front parking sensors (rears are standard).

Are the runflats optionally? BMW online chat told me I had to have the rfts frown
Yes they are a no-cost option.

BMW online 'genius' is anything but in my experience.

I recommend ordering from Tony Lewis/TRL at Berry BMW.

This is my spec:
M140i Shadow Edition.
Sport Auto
Metallic.
Adaptive Suspension.
Adaptive LED Lights.
Electric Seats.
Heated Seats.
Front PDC.
Pro Media.

I would say that everything on that list except adaptive LED's and electric seats are 'must have'.

Thank you pretty much where I was (minus the ones you listed as nice to haves).

Anyone got folding mirrors? I don't care about them folding but apparently the wing mirrors auto-dim too but only with that option?

Correct, folding mirrors also dim. Used to be only the drivers door mirror, could now be both.

Question for the owners here, I followed an M135/140i the other day and noticed it didn't have rear PDC. Is it an option on these cars?

With rear PDC I believe it's optional but standard on the Shadow Edition.

Could I ask with the dimming wing mirrors if it's a help or hindrance? Wondering if the lack of being blinded helps or impairs your ability to triangulate distance...

I like the dimming mirrors although since the LCI I believe it’s only the driver’s one which is a bit naff.

My 335d does not have electrically folding mirrors. When you consider the width with and without, I consider them as sacrificial protection to the side panels. For me having mirrors that don’t fold is not an issue.

So I presume they are not dimming (but tinted, I believe). I have never had an issue with that. In today’s tight parking, not having PDC would be an issue, especially to the front. It helps to squeeze up tight at many places.

I have them as the car I test drove had them and I liked the feature. The kerbside mirror will also tilt down when reverse parking which helps avoid alloy damage smile

Haven't noticed the auto dimming, so can't give any feedback on how good it is but I've never really been bothered by headlights in the mirrors anyway.

This is a brilliant feature that I had on my old E90 325i. I really miss it on my current car. I did ask for it as an option but the dealer cocked up and didn't tick it.

Dimming door mirrors are handy. Also they lighten up again in reverse. The tilt down in reverse is only available when paired with electric seats, also.

Thanks! I didn't realise that non rft were standard.

My local dealer beat Tony's price by a few hundred pounds.

Not true, I don't have electric seats and definitely do have the tilt feature.

Iirc either speccing folding mirrors or electrically adjustable seats installs the necessary module required for tilt.
