Going in for some paintwork tomorrow - pics will follow.

Just to fix some bubbling at the arches and a couple of marks on the rear bumpers.

Thanks for the replies guys. Multi-quoting is a bit too complicated for me, so I'll answer your comments in turn smile

- IPod connection. The previous owner did this - I think it involves a hack into the CD multi changer cable. There is also a powered cradle on the dash which is great as you can choose tracks and look at the sat nav directions etc. You retain the original stereo too, which is good from an aesthetics perspective.

The car is away at the paint shop at the moment, but I'll take some pics when I get back. Here is a link to the Jaguar forum which explains how I think he did it:

- Ecurie Ecosse. Wow, what a great picture! I was in the museum a few weeks ago and they do have some wonderful exhibits. Donating the items to the museum was a great thing to do. I don't have any connection to the team myself, I'm just a keen fan.

- Asteroids. I will send you a PM.

Thanks Guys.

Got the car back from the paint shop on Friday after having the front wings, rear arches, rear bumper and some under seal / rust proofing done. I got the mud flaps taken off too as I prefer the lines without them.

It's looking good. I'm just waiting for new "Jaguar" and "XJR" badges for the boot to finish it off, and I will post some pics shortly.

Cheers! Looking forward to seeing your pics too smile

The new boot badges have arrived for that finishing touch.

Will try to get some decent pics of the car shortly as it is looking pretty sharp.

Just back from a long drive this morning, I'd forgotten how good it is to drive.

The paintwork has really lifted it too. As for the exhaust, I went for the OEM look - it's got a nice burble to it.

I am a rubbish photographer and it was still quite dark when I took the pics, but I'm getting a friend who is good with the camera to take some pics shortly.

Well, I have been tooling about in the car for a while now since all of the work has been finished and I love it.

Wafting about, well it is a Jag so is the master of that craft.

But when you put the footdown, oh my! It's like the ghosts of 1,000 Spitfires are unleashed as you going into warp drive. I almost expect the stereo to start playing Rule Britannia whenever the Sports button is pressed.

It sounds great with the stainless exhaust too, which is on the civilised side of fruity.

If any of you are thinking of getting one, do it, they are absolute bargains at the moment.

Oh, I am going to keep the BBS wheels as they have really grown on me. I will need some new tyres soon, though smile

8cylinder - I will look out the number if the paint shop.

The love affair continues. It really is a spectacular machine.

Had a nice drive this morning tip toeing around in the frost, enjoying the Jaguar-ness. Can't wait until Spring so the car can come out of hibernation proper.

Great run this morning via McDonald's:

It's a dangerous place, though. Last week I was drawn there in my Sovereign.

All roads lead to McDonald's smile

Great final winter run in the car yesterday. The Horn is legendary:

Now all thoroughly cleaned and tucked away to hibernate until Spring:

Had the car out for the first time in ages for a good 200 mile drive today. Superb. They really are great value just now and, bar the tensioners, pretty robust.

Next job is to get my new tyres fitted.

And some good news, the overall mpg is improving smile

Back from another great run.

They really are marvellous cars, and amazing value. Get one and get the tensioners and gearbox oil changed, and the upgraded pulley fitted, and you will have a robust fast car that should be problem free.

The only problem is somehow, mysteriously, the car always ends up here when I'm on an early morning run.

That's a year I have had the car now, and it contines to make me smile every time I drive it,

In planning on keeping it for a long, long time, so am about to give replace most of the bushes (I did some last year).

Also, I want the body to be 100% perfect. I got some paintwork done last year, but I am going to get brand new front wings for it so it looks totally perfect. Not cheap at £420 each before painting, but worth it.

The Michelin Pilot Sport tyres I recently got fitted are great too. Quiet and great grip in the wet and dry.

Had a great afternoon at Scotland's Secret Bunker today. Highly recommended.

it's a lovely car, and much different to the Jaguar.
at the end of the day, i have a list of at least 25 must-own cars i've to work my way through, so short of winning the lottery, they each have their turn, then give way to the replacement.
A good plan! I have a list too, but end up getting too attached to the cars and keeping them for too long.

Lovely looking XJR, the wheels really suit it. I recently picked up a 1998 X308, will be starting my own thread in here soon where I detail my woes of attempting to run it on a shoestring. Alas mine doesn't have the bbs wheels, will have to save up and find a second hand set.
Cheers! PM me with any questions you have.

The wheels are called BBS Milanos - sometimes listed as BBS Milans on ebay. The prices vary wildly, sometimes they can be really cheap, but the 255 / 40 / 18 tyres are expensive.

I can get tyres at very competitive prices. Especially if you're on PH!
Bah, wish I had known that. I have just bought a set smile

The car continues to be fantastic.

Bit of a judder under braking so I had it looked at and it needs new front sub frame mounts. I'm also going to purchase one of the suspension refresh kits and get that fitted at the same time.

http://britishparts.co.uk/products/5035-xjr-suspen...

There is also a slight bit of rust coming through on the front wings and rear arches. So, once the suspension is done I'm going to get new front wings and new rear arches.

Should be about £3k all in, but I think it's worth it as, touch wood, the car should now be great for a number of years (I got the tensioners and transmission fluid changed last year),

Oh, and I treated it to an under bonnet tool kit smile

Cheers!

I will check the bulbs next time I am back with the car.

I have decided to bite the bullet with the front wings and get new ones. They are around £450 each and need painted after that, but I want to keep the car for a good few years.

The rear arch kit is a lot cheaper, but needs the old arches to be cut out and the new ones welded in. The front wings just bolt on.
