Good question.
Aim is for 400bhp and 1000kg but not sure what it will end up weighing at as it will be road legal. Not even sure what a group 4 Escort actually weighs in at!

Well spotted. The car was set up more neutral before strip and paint. Since paint I have changed the front dampers to full tarmac spec and have yet to set any ride heights. But lifting a front wheel could be fun!

I am just fitting up the body panels and bits of trim. Doors a nightmare to line up when you are trying not to chip the paint! Just waiting for plastic windows to be delivered then off for MOT but no rush as will not be road testing until the salt is off the roads - how about you Finlay?

The car had been a rally car for many years before it came into my hands about 5 years ago. I bought it from a chap who had had the shell for a full group 4 rebuild at Northwest RS Centre (there is a picture of it on their site). Their work included, tubing, weld-in Safety devices cage, new floors, new boot floor, new chassis rails, new 4 link boxes etc etc.
I choose the shell for the LS project as it had had a large tunnel from its very early days as a rally car so it suited me down to the ground.
I have since added extra door bars and extra rear diag. The full fitment of the engine has not impacted on the original spec of the car - hence it can be returned back to full group 4 spec at anytime.

Ross you know it was going to be S2000 power - blame Kurt.
Next one will be Pinto. Then I will do an S2000. Just may be a few years down the line!

Rubbish. Should have put an S2000 engine in it.

Update
Car passed its MOT today with flying colours Test station was very pleased to see the car came up on th computer with the correct engine details. Seems Testers are now getting very worried about the come back from testing cars with engines that do not match the log book - something to do with emmissions I think.

My car is fully declared to my insurance company. I have all the bills for the build of the car. DVLA are also informed of the engine change etc. I have independant engineers reports etc. I used a shell with I.D. that was built for rallying in the early 90s hence does not fall under the latest IVA rules - having said that I have not touched the chassis anyway so would still pass.
All this makes for a car I can drive without worry for the few miles between events and also will make it easier to sell in the future.

We have joint ownership of a MX5 sprint car that has sat outside since its purchase so guess I better give it a coat of looking at!
Then I will be making a start on my rust free MK1 escort. Spec will be to historic rally with a 2.1 pinto, 45s, 4 speed straight cut, LSD etc. All parts in stock just needs Mexico wings fitting and paint - walk in the park!
Then I will do another Mk2 Escort with S2000 engine!

Mind I still have a soft spot for a compact - maybe with a late 3 litre motor!

Diff is a Cosworth 7.5 with a standard ratio of 3.62. Gearbox is standard T56 fare with a modified shift - which is basically direct with the remote only used for the self centering of the lever - which works really well - very much old school escort abit 2 more gears! I know what you mean about shift action of the T56, I had a Monaro with a Ripshifter and it felt rubbish compared to the Escort set-up.
Your car spec sounds very impressive. I want to walk before I run so to speak
