I think the OP's car looks better than standard but then I don't like standard Golf's. I drove one before opting to purchase a Focus ST and it was drab, slow and just generally average. At least the OP's car isn't that although I agree with the general concensus that suspension that goes that low is pointless other than for "scene" points.

But it's only dumped when it's parked so what's the problem?

I like the Golf platform, it's a nice size for me, and I know them very well so can fix most issues myself. It's not the fastest hot hatch but it's the nicest all around one IMO.

Love the car and yr work on it. Good laugh reading the kids comments as well but don't let them wear you down bud. I did consider doing this to my ride and still may do if the rides good at sensible height. beer
Oh, missed this comment.
Thanks mate
I try and drive it at a height I can hoon it but only bottom out on hideous backroads.
Will have fun when I put my merc wheels back on, end up bottoming outevery day lol smile

Genuine question to the OP, not a dig at all -

Do you not get sick of bottoming out on things? I drive a mildly low e36 and it only happens on really st speed bumps. It would drive me mental, but I suppose you can flick a switch and raise it.

I know of a Z3 that is so low on coilovers that one of the rear struts fell off. The driver wasn't really fazed at all and made quite a spectacle of it thinking it was funny?

I don't get it, I really don't haha. Saying that, I don't hate it, the Golf looks pretty smart.
Not really smile

As fortunately it doesn't really happen too much as I purposefully don't run it so low that I can't drive it about, that would be daft...... rolleyeslaugh

I think the Z3 owner was just laughing along at it, for us with stupidly low cars that's part of the fun.
That being said I don't (and wouldn't) run my car so low that I would intentionally smash bits off, that's not fun that's just silly.

That last pic... you know, I rather like it. Lots of subtle detail going on there besides the ride height.

Sure, I know the pictured height is for show and not for driving. Quite like that, too.

Can't and won't comment on the chassis mods as I don't have the depth of knowledge to be objective.

Clearly, it's a passion and you've put a lot of time into it. Credit there, too.
Thank you mate.

Not to everyone's taste but it's my car and I'm proud of it. I'm glad you are aware that the pictured height isn't what I drive it at lol smile

I'm sure a proper setup for an M3 or the likes is close to this amount so I don't see the comparison being fair.

Basically, he's bought a car he likes, modified it the way he wanted to modify it and he now drives it how he wants to drive it. Well done that man.
I know! Heaven forbid that you don't modify your car in a way that 30-something diesel company car drivers don't like! frown

What am I to do?

And dicked about with a major crash structure on the vehicle, but it looks strong enough, so thats OK then.
Glad we share the same outlook on life.

You can't compare welding new engine mounts with cutting fking holes in the chassis and crash structure you 'scene' bellends.
Lol you seem mad bro.

Fyi I am not scene at all. I only have 280 followers on Instagram and I don't wear chinos or flat caps or tweed jackets in the sun.

I wear some Vans but my better half picked those for me so it doesn't really count.

It's funny watching you lot get irate over what I do with my car. It's only the internet honey, come to bed. NO SOMEONE IS WRONG (in my opinion).

Like it effects you smile

And FYI all of my modifications are declared to my insurance even the notch. Right down to my club forum sticker. On a fixed value specialist policy. Wonder how many people have remaps, wheels, etc that are undeclared....far worse IMO. Yet I don't get all big and brody from my armchair like a badman from da eaztsiyde.

Call me a bellend to my face? and I might just by you a milkshake or and ice cream or something and hope you are just an angry person with a keyboard rather than a mouthpiece in RL (Violence is like a red ferrari. Neither big nor clever)

biggrin

i'd imagine that anyone looking to buy a modified car and in the DUB scene would actually find the presence of such a mod a bonus if they were looking to do the same sort of mods.

Nice car, quite like it. Purple puddle lights are a cool touch.
Exactly that. Cheers rooyyyyy.

If you sell this car will you put it back to standard?

If so I pity the poor fker when he's got the wheel off doing the brakes and they see the chassis chopped.
The car will be sold either as a package or as standard and as with all my adverts I will be completely honest with everything that has been done with the car including chassis mods.

It's just funny that's all.

I don't judge people across the board, take everyone on their own merit smile
Infact some older people can be a right laugh!

Have a good'un!!

Not really. Just some simple logic.

Look at the other MkV thread on here, Focussed on making the car better and looks great as a result.

Edited by conkerman on Tuesday 24th June 09:33
Funny that! Why waste my time looking at it on the internet, when I can just go in it?

Here's me and Rich going for a lovely run up the strip at Santa Pod a little while back.

If I spent even half the money I've spent on doing what I WANTED to do, on making it "faster" (it already does 140 quite happily on my mates driveway [he has a very big driveway]) and that's not even with the Stage 2 mapping yet) then I would be at around 450-500bhp and KW V3s, LSD, polybush etc. I've build a performance Mk5 before and I wanted to do something different. Heaven forbid what I do doesn't appeal to someone on PISTONHEADS oh my goodness gracious me I'm going to CRY. rolleyeswhistlebiggrin

But for what I do which is pootle around seeing my friends and going to work and back, with the shows and what not then what I've built my car to do is perfect for me!!

Why don't you go over to Richard's thread and lick his bum if you like his car so much! He might even like that smile

IMO it would be much better being built as a sleeper, a very rapid sleeper at that.

Anyway, I have a question or two about air ride -

Does the car lose pressure to all airbags in the event of a failure of the system and components?
Would the failure be catastrophic - eg a hose comes out of the airbag connection - what happens - do you lose ride height equally or will the affected corner change its dynamics at a faster rate than the other airbags?

Believe it or not I have assisted with the install of one of these systems for a (at the time) chum, the push fit connections and plastic pneumatic hoses seemed very susceptible to wear and failure especially being that close to the road...
Yes, it would simply collapse.. each bag has it's own air line with metal connections (no plastic ones here) so all good in that regard. So if the front left one came lose or broke the front left bag would lose pressure.

Had it a year now and had no issues thankfully.

Yes indeed, which is why I was querying the previous comment as quoted.

You don`t have to own a superior car to be able to have an opinion and comment on something.
You can't really mug off other peoples cars if you drive a Corsa (for example).

Just had a packet of Skips for breakfast.

Where did you get the air ride done? I think it would look great on the XJS biggrin
My friend Jamie @ Moores Motors supplied and fitted it. Heheheheheheh smile

In a few years time you'll look back at this 'scene' and laugh at yourself. Until then good work paying my taxes and giving the Police something to focus on.

I bet the FPN went down a storm at the carpark biggrin
I laugh at myself anyway, benefits of being fat.

It gained me 100 scene points.
