There's something about these I like, I fortunately managed to borrow one for a few days last year while my Impreza was in the garage for some work, they drive really nicely, handle brilliantly, stop well and with an exhaust sound pretty decent too. Didn't feel all that quick fto me personally but the handling more than made up for it. They're a nice place to be and an absolute bargain.

They're not going to if you're used to anything turbo-charged. Or for that matter anything with any kind of powerband as they are just too smooth and seamless in their power delivery. To feel fast you need a (ideally sharp) change in acceleration.
Thanks for the comments guys, I've driven/owned much faster turbocharged cars, but they are a totally different drive to the RX8. not better or worse, just different Gave it a rinse today;

I've lock wired mine on.
Having lost a centre cap within the first week of owning the car, I had to do something to keep them in place - 6 years later and they are still all there. Its a bit of a pain to remove them when it comes to replacing the tyres, but I can live with that.

I'd just take them all off and do without...
Got a couple of centre caps on the way, panic over!Fastdruid said:
See. Utterly unreliable those RX-8's

Remember my parents had a 231 in this colour-great in the dry, twitchy in the wet; I don't think the standard Bridgestone's did it any favours. However, it really was scalpel sharp. I loved the ability of the engine to rev and rev, how it made you as the driver work at extracting the performance and how more ability came to the fore the harder you pushed it.
Shame they part ex'ed it for a Merc CLK 220 diesel...
Good comments, they sum up the car well. Shame they part ex'ed it for a Merc CLK 220 diesel...
I don't find it twitchy in the wet, but then I don't push cars in the wet at all.
Seeing this every week is probably why they px'd it for a diesel!

Nice PZ
I recognised your username from the RX8OC, haven't got threads on either site for my 231 yet, must get round to it.
I'm off to Rotary Revs in the morning for a compression test, think I've been less nervous the day before exams
I know how you feel, got mine done there too. I was sat in the reception waiting for the tesult, felt awful haha, it passed though I recognised your username from the RX8OC, haven't got threads on either site for my 231 yet, must get round to it.

How is yours doing? Any issues?
Touch wood mine has been spot on, I am considering getting an upgraded starter as a precaution though. Before winter sets in!

Just got back from Rotary Revs.
6.1, 5.8, 6.0 for the front
5.1, 5.3, 5.3 for the rear
Conclusion: Low compression rear rotor.
However, as it starts on the button hot and cold (they said it's a "quick hot starter") there's no reason to worry even though it's a little low. The important thing is the 3 faces on each rotor are pretty even.
Mine's been a great car for the money so far. I gambled on a cheapish one and apart from the cat which made its escape whilst on track, any money I've spent has been on consumables or improvements. I've done the 2kW starter swap, and D585-R coils and did notice a smoother idle afterwards.
Go for an R3 starter if you do decide to change. They spin faster.
My comp test in 6's back in April, I'm running D585's & premixing too. 6.1, 5.8, 6.0 for the front
5.1, 5.3, 5.3 for the rear

If yours is starting hot/cold fine then I wouldn't worry about it.
Did you get your 2kw starter from Rotary Revs?

To add a nice positive note: I bought a 3 year old 231 RX8 in Nov 2009. Since then I have added 43000 miles and it is now on 66000.
The only non service item repair has been two rear springs. It still starts no problem, hot or cold.
If the engine were to fail- there are huge numbers of very cheap RX8s out there.
It has been great fun and the only difficulty with it is deciding on the next car. I have eventually gone for the nearest thing to the opposite of an RX8- and have a Mustang on order! If I didn't have restricted parking- I'd keep the RX8 as well- I know I will miss it. Although the fact that it uses as much petrol as a 5 litre V8 is a bit daft!
Always nice to read a positve post about these, unfortunately a lot were owned by people who wanted a normal sports car and through no real fault of their own ruined them. The only non service item repair has been two rear springs. It still starts no problem, hot or cold.

I'd imagine that when the time comes the PZ will be difficult to replace with something similar for the money, but like you say even a v8 will have similar "economy"

Essex Rotary, although it's the N3Z1 version, which while still 2kW, isn't quite a fast spinning as the R3 spec one Rotary Revs offer as the gearing is different. Probably why it's £100 cheaper. If I keep it that is, keep finding myself looking at Rx7's... And Porsche's
Anyway, some pics from today. Went for a drive and gave it a clean.
