High Class Escort (Mk2 tarmac rally car thing)

A friend of mine builds mk1 and 2 Escorts for a living. After years of building them for other people he's finally found the time to build his own.
Here it is fresh from the body shop and ready to be built up into a road going car.
And trial fitting the engine which is a brand new Zetec with a few trick parts.
Sorry for the hijack!
That is lovely. Zetec conversions seem very popular and they're great value. Here it is fresh from the body shop and ready to be built up into a road going car.

Outstanding. Thanks for sharing. There is a duke film of the 2018 rally of the lakes,I recorded it on sky (motorsport TV maybe?) a wee while ago and watch it about once a week There's loads of YT footage as well of course but the duke one is pretty slick.30 minutes of tarmac spec escorts sliding around irish country roads.
I bloody love tarmac rallying, I was brought up in Duns and was at the Jim Clark Rally every year when it was on closed roads. Spectacular. Back in the 90's it was hugely popular, massive crowds on the stages. I wish rallying was still like that, i think it is in Ireland.
In case any escort fans missed it, this is a great thread right here on PH:

I'm going for a lower-spec, lower-budget version!

To be honest, £15k isn't tooo bad

I'd be looking at £8k+ for a new duratec build
Crate duratec: £2k
Cams: £1k
Dry sump: £1k
Intake £2k
Ancillaries: £1k
ECU, loom, mapping £1k

Yeah but that’s 2nd Hand and an old-ish ad. Maybe plus vat too 😉
Nope, as much as I love the sound of them they are full-on race engines and need looked after as such. Probably need a rebuild after 5k Miles or so. Actually, I shouldn’t say that, they have an awesome reputation for reliability.
The red top was always the easy choice for 200-220bhp NA but I suspect the Duratec might overtake it. They’re cheap to buy, light and reliable. Exhaust on the wrong side though.
The basic head design is pretty good, ironically the designing-for-fuel-efficiency results in big valves and lots of scope for fairly easy tuning. TB’s and stock cams can give 200bhp on standard internals. 300 is doable but you’re into big money and race-engine logistics again.
I’ll be pretty happy with 150-160 to start with (he says).
A Caterham r500-esque 260bhp 2.0 screamer would be epic though

Some more pics of the shell:
Nice big tunnel
Watts link towers:
You can see it's had a sunroof at some point. It's been quite well plated over but it's not perfect so will get a skim on top to even it all out.
Tank platform already in place but i'll need to cut out a square for a well
I've just ordered a 4 link kit and watts linkage:

Wheels.
I was pretty keen on minilites but a mate put me into these:

Pretty good value and available in 13x8 & 13x9.

That's a really cool project.
Thanks very much. Not much happening yet, just collecting bits.I need to prime the whole shell pronto and crack on with dry build before she goes for paint (and i need to make THE decision. Back to green today. Stay tuned) :
Engine mounts
Sort steering rack position and maybe replace cross member and rack mounts
Get all the various brackets in place
Make sure all holes are in the right place!
