1969 Chevy Camaro SS
Discussion
Ignoring that it's LHD and the size of a house, the only thing that makes it a pain at normal speeds is the clutch and heat soak. Other controls are light and it is very comfortable. That lowered suspension with high sidewall tyres is actually very compliant. Visibility is good, although ascertaining the corners of the car will take some practice: I have an Audi SQ7 and this is the same width but with none of the cameras or proximity warning sensors. But that's just practice.
The engine, despite that lovely V8 choppiness from the Crane cam, pulls strongly and doesn't seem to want to stall when pulling away, and idles happily. At higher revs it pulls cleanly and in a linear fashion, and the noise. My god, the noise.
I'm not sure I'd want to drive it at speed in corners. Nor in the wet as it has big torque and 235 section tyres. But that's not how I will drive it.
Aircon, clutch and heat insulation. Maybe EFi. I think that will keep the classic feel, but make it feasible to live with. I even like the close ratio box, as it means that revving it gets you that noise, but you don't have to be travelling at ludicrous speeds.

I'm just bloody confused as to which one to buy, as my car has been modified with a 427 Corvette engine, from the same year (1969). I assume this is the kit? My car has no Aircon controls in it, so I assume no factory air.

and the kits requires the following questions answered. As I am new to the car, and not with it, I have no idea what to specify!

Sorry chaps, I'm confused, and not near the car currently so cannot check. From the pics above, is the fan electric, or mechanical?
You can see I'm a bit of a newbie trying to find his way, so I really appreciate your patience as I try to learn. It's been a while since I owned a true classic...
In the CC pic the fan looks to be connected to the front of the engine (water pump?) So I assume mechanical...

1993 was 30 years ago! Look at the header on the rad, it’s got rust.
Also, that fan belt looks frayed. Could do with replacing too.
Fan belt is squealing like a pig. Definitely needs to be replaced. I'll look at the rad when I do the fan too...aluminium multicore the way to go, as NDJ said above, I think. Going to take cooling this engine seriously. Also, that fan belt looks frayed. Could do with replacing too.

Two things.
A) Awesome car, looking forward to seeing the progress.
B) I had to google "slapper bar"
actually, there's a C) - I'm amazed this being a Flashman thread, that no-one has made the obvious joke![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
I must admit I did a double take when I worked out what those things were called, and swiftly moved into fond reminiscence of earlier days.A) Awesome car, looking forward to seeing the progress.

Hi chaps!
I love it. Have done no work to it whatsoever except to tune the carb to cure some rich running, and she starts on the button every time. I haven't used it recently: last time was a few weeks ago on a cold crisp, dry fay (always - not just to pamper the car, but also because I'm too scared to drive it when damp or wet!
Tucked up in a heated garage. This spring, probably going to fit an easier clutch, right hand soor mirror(!), better heat insulation, and a less vague steering box. No need to be as extensive on mods as I initially thought.
It makes such a good noise. And the looks are very special. People love the thing whenever I take it out. It's such an event, frankly.

Wife saw it for the first time at Christmas, as it lives at my Mums house out of London.
So did her parents. And it turns out that MIL's first boyfriend had one (wife is American).
They absolutely loved the car. Wife has no feelings on it either way, but has told me that she's not bothered by what I drive, but by the fact that I am slowly collecting too many cars with not enough time to drive them all.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Daughters have been out in it and they love it, but younger one (3) is a little fazed by the noise. It sounds very, very angry...even at idle.
