No not like he is describing there anyways. I have occasionally got a bit of a shake at 70ish but it's very light. Noticeable but certainly doesn't slow you down and seemingly not every time. I wonder if it's tyre pressure sensitive.
Also he states horrendous understeer. Well yes it does understeer but no worse than most other hot hatches I have driven

Our company have just introduced a "green" salary sacrifice car scheme. Usual suspects from Tesla and Polestar are a bit pricey, but I spotted the X-Power Trophy can be had fully-maintained and insured for £300 net a month which seems rather good value. Time to book a test drive and do some sums!

Chris
That's fantastic value!
I haven't booked it but servicing is pretty cheap (less than £100 I have been told for the first service) but tyre wear looks pretty high so far, but at less than 2k miles it's a little hard to be certain!

Zenith.

TBH they look expensive in all the quotes that I've seen, but I don't have a choice if I want to use salary sacrifice.
We have zenith at work. That's why I leased privately.
Last time I looked it had come down quite a lot though...

Another tiny mod. The MG4 comes with a wireless charging mat with a rubber covering like this (picture blatantly stolen off the web)

Which is fine, and very handy, until you accelerate anything like a little bit hard at which point your phone goes flying off somewhere towards the back of the car (normally to a completely inaccessible spot).

A fellow owner came up with a 3d printed bumper bar thingo.

Lift the rubber mat put in the bumper and then clip the mat back down.

No more flying phones!! It's not the best finished thing in the world but it looks ok

In other news I decided to decontaminate the paint on the bonnet to see what sort of state it was in. Difficult to get in a photo but surprisingly large amount of iron fallout considering the car has done less than 2000 miles. Must have picked it up on its trip from China?

Whilst doing the clean I spotted the first stone chip, slightly disappointed and hopefully not a sign of fragile paint...

Don't want to hijack the thread too much but mine turned up with the piano black trim pieces behind the rear window scratch like they'd had a 100 trips to the local scratch and shine.

It's almost a parody, like I don't know how you could get it that bad from at most 1 or 2 washes.
Mine aren't too bad but not sure how wise the inclusion of piano black plastic on the outside of a car is! Did think about putting some sort of pot on them but I'm yet to do anything about it....

Why does it need the lead if it’s wireless carplay ?

And where can one purchase a bumper ?
As others have said it's just a wireless charging pad. I rarely use android Auto to be honest. The built in nav is ok, as is the built in Amazon music.

The bumper i purchased directly off a chap off the mg4 Facebook page. But he also sells on eBay. Search for mg4 phone and it's the first thing that comes up.

Nope. Not wifi for either.
Just Bluetooth streaming or plug in for auto/carplay. Unless of course you buy a box like others have suggested

Was looking at the other side today and it's actually worse.

Lots of uniform scratches, like it's been wiped 50 times back and forth.
How's the rest of the paint? Maybe it's been transported with a strap over it or some sort of loose cover? Very weird.
Would probably polish out?

I'd be interested in that too.

Do the cars come with a type 2 cable?
Mg don't officially provide a type 2. You get a granny charger.
However.... A lot of dealers and lease companies chuck them in as part of the deal.

To this point (5 months or so in) I hadn't tried an ultra fast charge, basically no need to.
But I had heard of a few folks whose car wouldn't charge and it's left them stranded so thought I should try it out to make sure it all worked as expected.

My local Sainsbury's have recently installed a batch of UFC (bonus points for also being orange!) and it's close to home so although I didn't need to charge I popped in and gave it a try!

Now I know there are so many horror stories out there but it couldn't have been easier! Plugged it in, contactless payment and off it charged!
I got 91kwh charge rate from a 150kw charger and a potential 135kw capacity charge on the car, it was still going up when I had my 5min fix (and gosh charging in the wild is expensive).
Considering I started with 40% battery and I didn't pre warm it I was pretty impressed.

Other than that not much to report, range is still down in the cold weather and lots of very short local trips but I know it's better over a longer distance.
Infotainment is still irritating.

Did the costs tick up like filling up with petrol ?
If it’s 85p per KW charging at 100kw that’s like £85 an hour or £1.40 per minute !
Still cheaper per minute than petrol! (Although very similar value for money if not a bit more expensive...)

There was a QR code to scan which showed real time how much it was but my colleague scanned it and watched and I didn't pay much attention. Would have been cool if the graphics were like a petrol pump but I don't think they were.

Am I reading that correctly that at almost 50% charge you had just over 90 miles range?
You read that right. The official range is 238 miles.

As mentioned before weather plays a big hand in how far you can go on a charge (if for nothing else the heater zaps range) and the fact that at this particular time I don't think the car has been more than a few miles for each trip it's done for a few weeks. Like in a petrol car that's not particularly economical. On longer steady trips I would expect that to climb up to 120-130 miles.

Cheers for that, wasn’t sure what official range is.

Yeah guess-o-meter has lots of factors which affect it.
I've got over 4m/kWh on a long 60mph run so real world range is up to 240m I would guess, normal day to day driving it will be much lower though.

Honestly it's not been a problem. Over the last 5 months I think I've had 2 journeys where I have taken the petrol car because of range but it would have been easy enough to charge enroute. Those times are when you have a 2 hour drive each way (so about 90-100 miles)and I wouldn't normally stop for a break. Going in the ev would add a chunk of time having to stop for a quick charge. It's a very particular set of circumstances though...

Yeah on mpk no point having a 435bhp hot hatch and drive as economically as possible. May as well buy a Zoe for that
The mg4 is actually pretty good at doing both. Happy potting down to kids swimming lessons, happy leaving gtr behind at the traffic lights

Boring range post alert!

As all other EV owners experience the winter brings a reduction in range. Batteries don't perform as well in the cold and the additional drain caused by heaters, wipers, lights, heated seats etc

Feels like 10 degrees ambient is a real tipping point. Below that overall range would be under 200 miles.

But this last weekend I managed this

[url=https://flic.kr/p/2pH9e9P]

So 57 miles on 20% of the battery. So if the stats are right that would put a theoretical range of over 280 miles Vs the claimed 239. Impressive stuff.

This is a journey i do pretty regularly to see family and I normally allow 1:15 to 1:30 to do it so a normal sort of speed. I wasn't trying that hard to be economical but a run up the M1 with a long section with 50mph road works obviously helped, rest of the time sticking to somewhere around 65mph with a few miles urban driving at either end.

Nice sunny day ambient temp at 14 degrees so heating was off for a lot of the journey but put on occasionally when the car misted up a little. (And no I wasn't driving in a coat).
Overall not necessarily representative of normal driving (but not far off) and probably not how you should drive a car this fast but still....

Shame I have turned into an EV bore smile

I've definitely triggered the abs on mine. I did have a b road blast a couple of weeks back and can't say I noticed a lack of brakes. Not much modulation at the top of the peddle but feels like plenty after that

Further impressions.

The touch screen is st. Takes about 3 prods to do anything.

The acceleration is staggering and genuine can make you and your passengers feel sick.

The lane control thing has already tried to kill me a couple of times and apparently can't be disabled permanently, you have to do it everytime you drive.
A good summary! The infotainment is pretty awful, although surprisingly better on android auto which suggest software over hardware.

Lane control I have less issues than others (maybe down to type of road I drive and rarely turn it off) apparently later software updates adds a shortcut to the pulldown menu. But it has done a couple of silly things. I believe not being able to turn it off is an ncap thing and normal on all new cars? I bet someone will be able to code it out before too long....

Acceleration is rather fun isn't it....?
