Neither of the previous posters said anything overly harsh and were merely expressing their opinion.

Your replies were a bit ttish, though.
Thanks for the feedback - I'll bear that in mind for future replies...

FWIW I don't really care if people like, hate or feel indifferent about my car. I posted the pics and details for information and to maybe help others. I like it and I guess that's all that matters - no one else drives it at the end of the day. wink

All of his replies attacked the ages of the people concerned though? which I dont really understand....what does age have to do with somebodys opinion?
Because they're the type of replies I would expect from some keyboard kiddies.. they added nothing constructive to this thread and most probably haven't even read the spec history or details/reasons for the mods before jumping in with pretty lame comments. I've said before - I've no problem with people not liking the car - if you really feel the need to try and shoot it down then at least try and be constructive about it and justify your comments why... or just don't post at all??

Anyway, really like the car...Z3's are starting to become very attractively priced and have aged well over time!
/\ agreed! wink although they're not exactly liked on here too much! LOL!..

I think people have been rude to him in complete honesty. "I'd have gone for the ///M" etc for a start, that's like someone saying "Hey guys, here is my Impreza WRX that I'm really proud of" and then someone trying to rain on their parade by saying "Nice, but I'd have bought an STi personally" - there will always be a higher trim level or a faster car to suggest. Why can't people just be appreciative or pass their opinion without being snide or insulting?

And then to say that mods are "like something someone would do to a first, thrashed car" is a bit much too. A metal gear knob, some better dials, some bigger wheels some roll hoops are hardly Max Power style modding. No wonder he got a bit shirty, I know it's going to be to everyone's taste but there is no need to be slagging it off!
First sensible reply on here in a while!

Then why put M badges on yours..?
Jesus - another useless post.. I didn't put ///M badges on mine.. I put ///M side gills on (the badges are part of the gills) - I've explained above why I kept the ///M badges on the gills. It was either put them on or leave the recess where they go (as I wasn't filling them). the reason I put the //M gills on was because I liked the chrome dart on them, which I thought went well with the front grills and wheels.

If I wanted to make mine look like a Z3M then I surely would have stuck an ///M badge on the boot as that's where the official model designation for BMW's reside or is that to complicated for you to comprehend? Mine is FAR from looking like a Z3M replica for a start its lacking all these parts:

No ///M dual exit twin exhausts
No ///M front bumper
No ///M interior (apart from the factory ///M steering wheel)
No ///M rear boot lid
No ///M rear bood lid panel
No ///M boot badges
No ///M dials
No ///M brake calipers

Oh yeah and the kicker - Z3M's were NEVER available in MONTREAL BLUE from the factory!! not to mention that I would have changed the front lower control arm bushes to give it more caster like a 'real' Z3M when I was overhauling the suspension if that was my aim.. rolleyes Maybe I should nip out and hack the ///M badge off my steering wheel as well rolleyes

Thanks for all of the constructive replies (good and bad!) wink !! smile

Wheels are probably one of the most subjective styling mods you can make to a car and I know that my choice is a bit marmite. The main reason I got them was due to the fact I wanted my car to be relatively individual/unique - at the time I got them I was only the second Z3 in Europe to have them and the only wide body Z3 (as the other Z3 was a 1.9 in Finland) so there wasn't exactly a lot of visual references out there for me to go on and it was a bit of a gamble! - when they eventually arrived from the States (12 weeks later) and I got them on the car I was very happy with my choice. I think they suit the overall look of the car quite well and I'm very happy with them. smile

FWIW I also still have the original lightweight stock 16" five spokes in the garage which will eventually be getting shod in new rubber for track days when I get round to it. smile

That's my car now officially sold and on it's way to it's new home! (in sunny Kent!!) - so this will probably be my last update on this thread...

The new owner turned up today to collect it frown. Seems like a really nice and genuine bloke and very enthusiastic about the car so at least I know it's going to a good home. :buttrock

He seemed to like/appreciate everything I'd done to the car as well and could understand the thought process behind why I changed things the way I did. I guess the good news for the car is that it's going to be heading to it's new residence in sunny Kent so will be escaping the dull and miserable existence it became accustomed to over the last 2 and a half years in dull and drizzly Scotland!..

It is a weird feeling seeing someone else drive off in your car.. (the first time I'd heard the SuperSprint exhaust from the outside and I have to say that it sounds amazing.. coolcool)

It wasn't the newest or most expensive car I've ever owned - but it was the most fun - just a good honest, trusty reliable car - which I liked the looks of (eventually!!) and was happy with the performance of!
