Supercharger for VTEC, so it can still kick in.
Yo.
Although you're being sarcastic, the point still stands. I'd take the supercharger option over a turbo, because with a supercharger, the mapping is set to work in harmony with the VTEC. It 'spools up' gradually.Yo.
Much nicer.

This was one of the cars that i was looking at in November but ended up buying an Astra vxr instead. I still finding myself looking on the classifieds for one now though and i don't think i'd think twice if i could straight swap them. The only things that put me off were the fact that insurance for an import would be out of my range and the fact that i get very good discount for work or parts on Vauxhalls.
As others have said it hasn't aged at all and i think Honda made a big mistake not releasing the DC5 over here. Would have sold like hot cakes. It still even makes quite competitive appearances in the BTCC. What sort of mpg are you getting from her? Also will be interested in what figures you get quoted for servicing.
Insurance is a bit of a bh, being group 20 and Japanese. Honda OEM parts are really quite cheap, as a result of the 'Honda Happiness' pricing system. I just bought OEM rear discs and they were £90 + delivery. I'm getting 24mpg or so and that's with only hitting VTEC a few times per fill, which sucks. But it's modified and I sit in heavy traffic for the commute so I guess that's the reason. As others have said it hasn't aged at all and i think Honda made a big mistake not releasing the DC5 over here. As far as servicing goes - well, it seems to have been home serviced after 60,000km so there's not a lot of point in me taking it to a garage from now. We have a fella who services all our family cars, and he's fitting discs and pads, changing the oil, oil filter and fuel filter next week. It passed the MOT with no advisories three weeks ago.
Really does sound a solid car. You're really not helping me keep my current car for longer than 6 months

I can imagine mine is a group 17 i believe and thats bad enough! That isn't bad at all for rear discs. So i'm just going to have to check on insurance. Honda are very well built so the age does not bother me. Especially as within 1000 miles of me owning my vxr the dreaded gearbox made from cheese decided to eat itself. The mpg is a little worse than mine, i currently get late 20's early 30's. Do you run on standard petrol or momentum 99/ v-power?

I actually run on 97, from Sainsburys - it's close, so that's the main reason I use it. It's mapped for 97+.Really does sound a solid car. You're really not helping me keep my current car for longer than 6 months
'Gearbox made from cheese' made me laugh! Mine has a notchy second gear when it's cold. A lot of 01-02 DC5s have this. Mine isn't too bad in all honesty - it just slips out occasionally, and only when cold.

You wouldn't actually believe this, but the boyfriend of one of the girls that works at the gym i go to has a vxr also. I mentioned to her that our cars have a gearbox made from cheese. She atually believed this and still to this day used the excuse 'i'm a girl and don't know anything about cars'.
At least it's only second gear. First and second wouldn't really cause a problem. It's not one that you'd really keep the car in for long.

Haha! I suppose it wouldn't surprise me greatly, when I think about it! Good point re second gear not being one you'd keep the car in for long. I bet you've stocked up on the detailing gear buying a white car?! Championship white is one of the nicest colours out there imho.

I sold my EP3 Civic type R to buy a 290bhp VXR Astra, just over 12 months later I've got myself a DC5 as a straight swap. I can honestly say it's one of the best decisions I've made. It might not be as quick in a straight line but in every other way it's in a nother leage compared to the Astra. do it and you won't disappointed. As others have said it hasn't aged at all and i think Honda made a big mistake not releasing the DC5 over here. With regards to servicing, any Honda dealer or specialist can do it, price wise it's the same as an EP3 civic. The service kits, oil and quite a lot of other parts are the same on both cars.

I'll keep looking at them. I've got to renew my insurance in the next two months so while i'm phoning up i'll get a few quotes to compare.

Haha, yeah I've got an awful lot of products. I'm never out of Halfords buying cleaning gear! Just got a pressure washer there too, loving that.I bet you've stocked up on the detailing gear buying a white car?! Championship white is one of the nicest colours out there imho.
It's washed a lot more than I should at the minute. The fella who had it before me rotary polished it, so there's not a single swirl in the paint work.
Thanks for the lovely comments all!
Regarding the Dastek - I have a print out of before and after. It gave about 13bhp and really ironed out the torque and BHP 'blip' at crossover. I didn't drive it before so I'm not sure how it feels in comparison.
It's much less comprehensive than the Hondata system, but we don't have anybody who can work with that system here in Northern Ireland. So Dastek is the alternative

[quote=iphonedyou]Thanks very much all!
It's a 2001 with 62000 miles. I drove a 2008 Clio Dynamique 1.2 with all of 75bhp before this. The teg has 248.9bhp with a couple of rolling road print outs as proof, so it's a bit of a change! While I'll not say what I paid, it was a fair bit less than you guys in England pay. I'm in Northern Ireland and teg values have collapsed here.
What mods have been done on the engine? 248.9 BHP is fantastic.I would love to know.

Sure - it's 248.9bhp, from a standard of 214bhp I think? It's a 2001 with 62000 miles. I drove a 2008 Clio Dynamique 1.2 with all of 75bhp before this. It has a DC Sports header, exhaust and injen intake, plus a Dastek fitted and mapped by AI Autosport over here. That's the engine mods. Should be said that 248.9 is on AI's rollers. Obviously they all vary a bit. Quick car anyway.

That car is 10/11 years old and they have not aged a bit. If someone bought out a model looking like that now we would all drool after it. How many hot hatch/saloons that are 10 years old look that fresh?
My first thought too. I don't think it would look out of place if it was released today. iphonedyou said:

I had that in my EP3, change the gearbox oil with some Honda MTF3, much improved if it hasnt been changed in a while.
