Im paying about £700 TPFT now. My motoring history is as follows:

year 2k - nasty accident, my fault.

A little over a year ago i got a 1.6 205GTI - with no NCB at 20 years old. Cost of insurance £1000 TPFT. Im now 21 with 1 years NCB and im paying £700.

Insurance is grp 14 tho, so i imagine youll be paying quite a lot. My advice is to SHOP AROUND. When i got my grp 12 205 GTI i was quoted £2k TPFT at most places, until i called Adrian Flux who did it for a grand TPFT. Theyre a bunch of incompetent morons, but theyre cheap and seem to be getting better! Also try HIC, theyre specialist Golf insurers, they advertise im Performance VW if you want the number.

Email me if you want any more advice mate.

BTW click here> www.8vGTI.co.uk to see piccies of my 205 as well....

thanks, i have just done some online quotes and most places refuse to insure me but one sed about £8.5k, ( for curiosity, i did a TVR cerbera and it was only a few hundred more, madness)
i understand that i can get cheaper insurance if i ring around but its not going to drop from 8k to anything i can currently afford. I think selling the car andputting it towards something else would be a better idea.
What do they sell for? its in reasonable condition, 1.8 gti, 1992.
thanks
alan

Mad Dave, the car looks great and following up on what other people have said, you can't beat 'em for great driving.

I have a 160,000 mile MkII 8V (Big Bumper) that still does over 35mpg on every tank of fuel. I drive a good 40 miles each day commuting, which is always done flat out.

My other car is a SSC Stlus (see www.clubstylus.org.uk) which is great, but you can't beat a MkII Golf for fun.

Thanks Mark, nice to see the MkII hasnt completely fallen to the level of 'boyracer car' just yet!

I agree completely - ive always wanted a Golf GTI, and now ive got one i love it, excellent fun to drive, can be flung around and still returns good economy - im not sure what MPG i get (thats the only function on my MFA that doesnt work! doh!) but if i fill up with £32 of Optimax, i get about 300/330 miles before its riding low in the red again - considering i do a lot of short journeys thats not bad going, and its a delight to me as my last car (205GTI) used to return 180 miles to a full tank of juice!!

Glad to speak to another Golf enthusiast, maybe post some piccies of your pride n joy?

If anyone here is interested, the Golf is now up for sale:

It will be sadly missed but its got to go

www.evoposters.net/cars/davesgolfgti/golf_mfair

The reason being that im getting itchy feet for a change, so i know i wont want to be tooling around in it for another year - so nows the time to sell, when its got a full years MOT, just been serviced and tuned (today!) and its still in mint condition.

For anyone interested, its black, in stunning condition, its an 8v 1.8litre GTI, 103k miles, full service history, last owner for last 11 years (the guy who had it before me). Its got alloy wheels on it but will be sold completely standard aside from those, but with a box of minor mods (16v rear clusters etc). It runs perfectly and is a very nice genuine car. Ive always kept the revs below 3k until the oil is up to temp, and even then i rarely revved it very high.

As its in such stunning condition im after about £1500

Please email me on david@hopeandhomes.org if youre interested.

Dave you know you want my Porsche 944 why fight it.......

ref the Corrado I'm more of a fan of the 1.8l than the 2L, mainly as the 1.8 is easily tuneable to 160ish bhp whereas the 2L is less responsive to tuning (its not the same engine as the great Mk3 Golf 16v lump unforunatly). But lots of people rate the 2L more highly than the 1.8 anyway so its all IMHO! both are quick little beastys if you sort the suspension & the wishbone & axle bushes.

Still why am I telling you this when you know you want my 944 anyway

LOL, not sure i can afford your Porka!

1.8 16v Corrado is quicker than the 2.0, as the 2l is catted (from what i hear anyway!)
