Now I'm in trouble. Impreza purchase, wife yet to be told!
Discussion
Well, it could have gone worse. Could have gone better though. With hindsight, telling her about the 2010 Cayman on my watchlist wasn't smart! However misguided the logic was, I reckoned telling her about something more expensive that I was going to buy, then saying I wasn't, would help to diffuse the potential explosion generated by the Impreza bombshell. Guess what? Not happening! If I'm being generous, we'll call it a 50% success rate. In as much as, with much muttering, she's accepted the Impreza on the usual notion that I'll only have it for a little while, but the Cayman is, beyond any semblance of doubt, out of bounds.
When I say out of bounds, it is still on my watch list and finishes today. As it stands, it looks like a bargain............

Sorry for the crap pics

You brave bd.
In all honesty though, could you not consolidate? Or buy a house that can accommodate all those cars?
Ha, think you posted at the same time as me, or just before..........if so, have a look at the pics I just posted and tell me, in all honesty, you wouldn't have done the same............In all honesty though, could you not consolidate? Or buy a house that can accommodate all those cars?

Ouch. Think the solution to your car-buying addiction is to buy a newer model of the same car, in the same colour, and then hope the other half doesn’t notice. eg “It does look like new, doesn’t it? Just had it valeted”.
Good call, private plates may assist in the quest for discretion!baptistsan said:

I like it! If the Mrs decides it really must go then give me a shout! I'd happily give it a new home
Lol, it's a bit of a hit with my mates already. The shameless harridan of misery currently masquerading as my wife may yet have to be appeased by a sacrificial offering. If things really deteriorate mood wise, or I fancy something else in a while, I'll bear you in mind though. My cars tend to be better when I sell them than when I buy, although, as things stand, this will be a difficult one to noticeably improve. It'll stay completely standard whatever else, that's the main appeal of it to me.I like it! If the Mrs decides it really must go then give me a shout! I'd happily give it a new home
I had one of these on an X plate back in the early 2000s, and sold it after running it until about 2005 or 6, the last 2 years of which I also owned my current 2003 Evo 8. I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel about the comparison now. Back then, for me, the Evo was better in every way. For cars that are meant to appeal to similar people, they're two very different propositions.
I owned a Brand new W plate one back in 2000 so I do hanker for one of these every now again to keep in the garage, polish and generally look at and relive my youth. I think you got a great deal there, I saw a less original one on eBay a few months ago and the guy was asking £7.5k for it.
I suspect in a few years time when they have all rotted away these will be like Sierra Cosworths and people will be amazed they were only £4k a few years earlier.

You can’t compare a bog standard UK model Impreza with an Evo! Miles apart.I had one of these on an X plate back in the early 2000s, and sold it after running it until about 2005 or 6, the last 2 years of which I also owned my current 2003 Evo 8. I bought a 12mth old R plate, mainly because I was too impatient to wait for a new one (delivery time was quite long back then). Kept it for 4 years, sold just as they started to fall into the wrong hands, my last insurance quote was hilarious I suspect in a few years time when they have all rotted away these will be like Sierra Cosworths and people will be amazed they were only £4k a few years earlier.
Like you, I quite like the idea of tucking one away, enjoying it occasionally & waiting for them to appreciate nicely in value.

A friend’s dad did exactly that and got away with it.. He had an R8 V8 and wanted the V10 version when they were launched, so bought one in the same colour combination as his outgoing R8 and my friends mum never noticed any difference... in fact I believe she only became aware of the switch after his dad sadly passed away and it came out while they were all reminiscing about the cars he’d had.
