Didn’t these finish bottom of the reliability surveys around that era? Outstanding work. A V8 for £700!
It's 19 years old and still going so.... laugh
Long may it continue!

Can smell that from here biggrin

£700 for a nice V8 engine, put it like that doesnt seem so bad.

We had a V6 one back in the early 2000's, that was thirsty.

It had 1/4 of a tank and I put £40 in of petrol, drove 160 miles and had half a tank left.
No ideas on the mpgees but didn't think that was too bad.
I did barely go over 70 the whole way in the fear of it blowing up.

No idea but the policeman did say it was his second car fire that day and the other car was also an Astra.

Hopefully he doesn't buy another.

Wow, I will follow this with interest as I very nearly took a punt on this! Sat at £999 for the majority for the auction if I remember rightly?

All the best with it. I’m very tempted by a V8 LPG’ed shed.

Ha. Yep I was the highest bidder for the whole week.
The seller messaged me 4 minutes before it ended and said 'be quick, it finishes in a minute'.

Knew from that point he was bidding it up.

Went to halfords and bought some paint.
Operation 'hide the rust' is commencing shortly.

Oh and it struggled to start earlier.

This is why you only ever bid in the last 30 seconds.

Dont try cornering too fast in it, had a bloke when these were new showing me hows fast his ML320 was, a little bit quicker than a MK2 Golf GTI 8 valve, but, critically the Golf was nimbler, it had been lowered on uprated springs and dampers, he had me on the straights but tried to follow me round a roundabout, he more went over it, or at least his right hand wheels did biggrin

that engine deserves a home in something else, do people transpants those Merc V8's as they seem pretty strong and plenty powerful enough,

A new pedal from mercedes will get you change from £30, do the throttle cable while you are at because the plastic where is joins the pedal goes brittle and that is not a fun thing when it snaps.

Any detailers following this thread?
Think you'll enjoy my 'detail'.

I soon realised after the first arch that I underestimated how much paint i'd need. Only managed one side before I ran out.

'Prepped'

Rear wheel arch, both doors done.
(bloody cameras too good!! It looks better in real life)

Front wing..

I'll be lacquering it tomorrow for the total non rusty look.

Good lord that's a rusty Merc, looks like it's spent some serious time down by the sea with that kind of rust.

As for the interior.. I have this to offer. hehe That is absolutely horrific! eekhurl
