Any idea what I should look for with regards to the bonnet vents? I don’t even know the search term. Mine are black and the originals are silver.
Ooh I suppose the chances of you being anywhere near me is zero as mine are silver they are next on my list to murder out 0a said:
I will take off the nasty side grill things this weekend.
As I understand it SLK 55s didn’t have anything on the side. Is that right?
Correct - but it seems pretty much every PO resorts to sticking something on the flanks - "AMG V8" or "5.5 AMG" Luckily a pre-soak with WD40 and a bit of fishing line has them removed without damaging the paintAs I understand it SLK 55s didn’t have anything on the side. Is that right?

Cheers - bit of a painful story (my Readers car thread is around somewhere) but they're BBS CHR's. They really suit the car IMO.
Cos it's in my bookmarks - Juice SLK55 Readers car thread can be found here - ClickyOh and one other thing

You seem to buy cars more frequently than I buy toothpaste!
Will you fettle and keep the SL or will it go as well as the Z4?
The SL will stay and get some attention soon. Will you fettle and keep the SL or will it go as well as the Z4?
Controversially I’m thinking of selling the w124 320. It’s a fantastic example with a great spec. But it just doesn’t quite live up to my original green 300e, and I just love the 190 2.6.

Looking at the bonnet grills, they are a bit chipped (I wonder if they were painted). Would love your original ones though!

Take them off and send them to a hydro-dipping company. They will be able to change the fins to whatever colour you want and get the rest of the vents back to gloss black for relatively little outlay. Did my SL55 bonnet and side vents in 2013 and they still look new today.I’m in the midlands / edinburgh.

Sheesh they are good value……….https://chrome-tec.com/shop/en/mercedes-slk-r171/s...
Having looked at the originals they are clipped into the mesh part - I’d put a few quid on the clips being amazingly brittle after 15 years of V8 heat rising up to them
Finish on mine are what appears to be polished and lacquered aluminium - annoyingly I’ve noticed the rubber seats are well past their best - bet that will get the dealership parts chap scratching his head

I agree tat of the stest order I removed over 1/2 a kilo of it but mine had been heavily adorned with after market extra drl’s (with some horrific wiring bodges) as well as the entire ebay back catalogue of stick on badging - funny my old SLK200 was also “up badged” to faux SLK55 capacity
The SLK55 multispoke wheels are slightly different to the SL55 "Turbine" wheels in design (not sure on fitments, mind)
They're pretty rare and therefore, quite expensive. I never managed to track down a set for mine, so stuck with the OEM 5-spoke which I didn't mind the look of anyway.

"Bat st crazy car" - love mine - especially now it's been de-tated - few more bits to do on it and I'll be quite happy
Obviously I quite like the black on black on black - I do have the original wheels but they need a refurb

If you have your original wheels, perhaps we can do a deal. I believe mine are blacked out c63 wheels. If you are interested please PM me. Obviously I quite like the black on black on black - I do have the original wheels but they need a refurb
