Congratulations. Well done on getting a cancelled order in the spec. you wanted. I think that would be mine too. The one I've seen locally is a white one.

Not being anti-BMW or a snob or wanting to urinate on anyone's parade, I know what a GR Yaris is but don't really know what a 1M is other than a small RWD BMW. The GR Yaris is one of the few new cars that I've an interest in.
eek

Hand your PH card in at the door sir !

The 1M is one of my lottery wins

It is a bit odd to know what a Yaris gr is but not a 1m, I thought the post was being a bit contrite to belittle the 1m as not a real M car but it seems not. Maybe the posters are in countries that didn’t get the 1m?

Haha. These people obviously don’t watch Top Gear either. If you win the lottery or can afford one, make it happen! Maybe I should have done a readers cars for the 1M too. 😂

I am sorry for selling it, but it gives someone a chance to own one which seems fair with less than 450 to go round the UK. I miss the car but not dealing with BMW - bloody hate them!

Slightly concerned that the majority of Toyota dealers are pretty clueless as well, but time will tell.

I could be contrite as in spirit broken but I'll take a look at that video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8zHkzlYRdk

I've looked at 1Ms on autotrader. The proportions don't work for me, width x height. They look like a hot rod or cartoon caricature of a steroidal hot BMW. I can't see the cleaness of line and classiness that a two door E46 Coupe has.

Seconded!

(joking aside, the GR Yaris looks amazing.. can't wait to hear how the two compare)

I seem to be settling in to using the Yaris around once a week at the moment. I do a lot of miles for work and while I think it would happily take 20k miles a year it seems a waste to use the Yaris on motorways without any corners to enjoy.

This week, it enjoyed a cracking cross country run through Kent to the final round of the BTCC at Brands Hatch. Found another friend there too, actually the only other one I saw at the event, in exactly the same colour.

This car just keeps impressing with it's capabilities. It feels like B or twisty A roads are where this car is most at home (no surprise there I guess) but I've never driven anything so effortlessly quick on these type of roads. It just feels so tied down, so planted, so grippy!

Engine keeps loosening up (780 ish miles now) and has plenty of shove for road run, no doubt! After years of BMW's with fat steering wheels, I love the thin little steering wheel and the gear change is also better than any BMW I've ever had. Lovely and mechanical!

I didn't really expect it but it has a real presence, from the front particularly, so it was a nice thing to walk back to, especially amongst a few knowing motorsports fans.

Quite a bit of snow in the far south east of England on Sunday night and I finally got a chance for a bit of a drive in it.

I thought 'Track' would work well with a 50/50 torque split and although I wasn't too silly, the grip/traction is pretty ourtrageous for me as I am used to rear drivers and front wheel drive hot hatches.

Just under 2k miles now and it feels properly loosened up. I'm enjoying each drive more and more and the performance continues to surprise given the fairy modest power.

Only bit that isn't great is it clearly isn't designed for a motorway cruise. The gears are stacked pretty closely for 'rally' type speeds so even a very relaxed motorway run will struggle to get near 40mpg. It's not uncomfortable though, and some of the tech, such as lane keeping and radar cruise is impressive on such a small hatch.

Think I might keep this one a while!

I stood and watched a couple of GR Yaris negotiate the ice-covered skid pan at the PH Sunday Service.

Without doubt, they found an almost astonishing level of grip under power vs any other car I watched - even other 4WD stuff like hot Audis. I was seriously impressed.

Glad you’re enjoying it - I can see why!

Thanks - they really are astonishingly capable. I don’t think it is lacking in many areas but engine noise is not great, start up noise, non existent, and steering feel, well, there isn’t any really but that doesn’t mean you can’t feel the grip available as the chassis is pretty communicative.

Obviously, the noise could be enhanced easily but I quite like its ‘stealth-like’ demeanour at times as you can slip by 95% of motorists completely un-noticed. I guess no ‘exhaust’ button is pretty unusual in performance cars, certainly hatches these days, but I suppose it reinforces the fact that this is quite a serious and purposeful car for Toyota. There’s nothing much added that doesn’t add to the performance.

I drove a demo car way back before orders were being placed. Such a fun car, loved it to be fair. Just a tad small for me at the moment.

TX.

Great day at Drive Limits, North Weald airfield on Monday with a group of 12 GRY’s. A great place to learn the car properly with actual encouragement to keep pushing harder until you spin!

Weather was perfect really - cold, wet and very skiddy! Turns out the Yaris is pretty good and really comes alive when pushed beyond its limits. I came away thinking this car might be a keeper…..

Highly recommended if you haven’t done it.

How do you find the Yaris vs the 1M in terms of fun?

I would honestly say for me, the Yaris is more fun. Part of that is feeling more comfortable driving it ‘enthusiastically’, but it is also more agile and willing to change direction. It begs to be thrashed like nothing else I’ve ever driven. Neither are brimming with feedback from the controls, but I might be spoiled as I also have an S1 Elise.

Would isn’t as much fun is the start-up noise and exhaust note. Always loved the noise of the 1M but the Yaris sounds like an Aygo below 3000rpm. I’m potentially in the minority in liking the piped-in noise above that. There are ways to improve the exhaust note obviously but I have never been into modding particularly.

What is in no doubt is that the Yaris is much easier to drive fast, bring wet roads in to it and the Yaris would drive off into the distance.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for introducing yourself at the Sunday Service this morning - if I hadn’t been holding up the traffic I’d have been picking your brains on your GR! (The WANT is strong). Hopefully next time thumbup

Yes, sorry not a great place to stop you but wanted to say hello when I saw you in the car! The GR is a lot of fun and certainly the pick of my cars at this time of the year, hence why there were so many about today I guess.

One of about 6 or 7 white ones at Mercedes Benz World today.

Welcome to the club.
Stick an exhaust on, it completely transforms the experience!
I’ve had mine since last July and done 6500 hard miles, they really loosen up around 3000 miles.

I like the gold alloys. Brave choice but it works!

I'm not generally one to modify but the (lack of) exhaust note is certainly a bit of a disappointment so might be something I need to do at some point.

An interesting view from Steve Sutcliffe yesterday given he was singing its praises at launch. My own criticisms (other than exhaust note) is that you do have to drive it pretty hard to make it come alive. When you do, I feel the car gives some decent feedback through the controls but it does need some decent loads through the suspension and steering.

Just over 4,000 miles in now and the more I use this thing, the more I love it and think it may be with me for a long time. It's easy to forget what all the fuss is about just pootling around, but driven hard, it's just awesome!

Took it to Snetterton in May with the family to watch the BTCC. Not exactly the sort of roads (A11) where the Yaris shines but it comes well with a longish motorway/ dual carriageway run, and managed about 45mpg in the process!

And pictured with it's other stablemates at home. I also have a Zenos E10 but that lives elsewhere.

Last proper drive in it was back from Goodwood FOS last Friday where it took the place of the Zenos due to the weather forecast. Turned out to be a great decision as the car parks turned to a mud bath and my God does it drive well in the worst conditions. Traction and grip are seemingly unaffected by flooded roads and I was reminded again what a crazy capable thing this little car is.

I really didn't think I would have it more than a year or so but now I'm putting some money aside for next September when I actually have to pay for the thing after the 0% finance period ends. What a deal that was!
