nice looking car, I do think that they are missing a trick by not offering the 1.5 petrol, from driving the same engined golf from time to time, I find the 1ltr too gutless and 3 cyl is not a pleasant sound up the revs for medium to long motorway drives but I suppose they dont want it to take sales from the other models.
It is offered with the 1.5 in the UK.

It is available as a 1.5 TSI, in Continental Europe, at least.
The price difference wasn't great, fuel consumption neither.

I didn't feel the need to have the 1.5 4 cylinder as soon as I drove the 1.0 3 cylinder.

My partner has the 130bhp 1.5 in her Golf and tbh its as flat as a fart. Id much rather have the 3 pot even though on paper its slower.

Guessing this is the same engine as in the up! GTI? If so, it's fabulous.

Yup!
I think it’s better with the 7 speed DSG and more refined than in the tiny Up! GTI

Obviously totally different cars. The up! GTI isn't about refinement, it's about excitement, something it delivering in spades. DSG wouldn't contribute to that, but the thrummy little 3-cylinder engine does.

The 1.5 I have in my golf is actually a 2 cylinder at certain times, as it has cylinder deactivation under light loads.

They have managed to smooth it out though and you can't tell unless the window is open and it switches, I understand the exhaust helps - but you can't fit an aftermarket sports one as when in 2 cylinder mode it sounds like a tractor if it's not OEM.

A "Like" from me. My wife has a 1.0 Q2 and having just put 2,000 miles on it as the family car was broken I think it is a great little engine. Not quick but fast enough for overtakes and motorway speeds. Great mpg as well.

There's not a massive difference in torque figure of the 3 engines - 200Nm on the 1.0, 220Nm on the 1.5 130PS and 250Nm on the 1.5 150PS

Wife has just got the 150PS version in a Karoq - I thought it would feel much less 'forceful' compared to her old diesel Tiguan with 340Nm but it doesn't in practice. I suppose DSG masks the differences.

Saw a lot of Taigos on the road on a recent road trip holiday in Northern Spain.
They're made in Pamplona, so that may be a reason you saw so many.
I spotted quite a few in Mallorca last week. Now I know why.

Good looking things.

Three months in, and not a whole lot of KM covered in that time .... I WFH 100%.
I think it's only on 2,500km now.

We were in Mallorca last month and saw LOADS of them as rental cars, although they were all lower specced models.

Took another trip to the Netherlands on Sat to visit my youngest at Uni there. The Taigo is surprisingly good on motorways, despite its small engine.

Very happy with this so far.biggrin

Just had an email from the VW dealer that my winter wheels and tyre set is ready for collection, so I need to make an appointment with the local tyre place who change them over in <10 mins., vs the VW dealer taking an hour.
(The tyre place also wash the summer wheels - throughly- then keep them in storage for the next 6 months or so.)

I seem to recall these cars still come with an old school manual handbrake?

Nice. I have a Skoda Kamiq Monte Carlo with the same engine. I do about 20-30,000 miles a year and so far i'm very impressed. Thinking of starting my own thread on it!

Good to hear and they are good on the motorway. We have put 5,000 miles on our Q2 1.0 and it has been great. Long term average on the trip computer for our time with the car is 50.2 mpg. That's school runs, local runs for kids clubs et al and some longer trips.

I have an A4 TDI (quattro, guess it doesn't help with mpg) and on local trips it struggles to get 40 mpg where as the Q2 will get 50. Two different cars and for many the 1.0 could be the only car they ever need.

Ours is a manual, which works well, however having had a dsg in the A4 I would like to try a 1.0 with dsg as reckon it would be a good match.

As well as the SEAT Ateca (now approaching 70K miles) we have in the family with this engine we just added a Skoda Kamiq to the family fleet. Both have the 110PS version engine, in manual.

I'd have preferred the auto but needed the car quickly and new Kamiqs are thin on the ground.

Surprised they never offered this box in the Up Gti. I see a lot of up Gti’s in central London as they make a lot of sense there, but a. DSG box would have made even more sense. Nobody drives around London for pure enjoyment, so a Manual can’t be justified.

Pleasingly, the VW dealer changed the winter wheels from steelies wit wheel trims to alloys at no extra charge.
He’s a good chap that salesman. I’ll get him a bottle of something decent for Christmas.

Stacked up at home….

And fitted …..

January ski trip has now been booked. Mrs RC said to take the Taigo instead of the Octavia wagon. I thin that’s praise for the Taigo for the long motorway journey. smile
