The picture shown there was when I'd just put it all back together; the filter has since been moved to a much beter location behind the headlights. I've been meaning to panel it up (I have some nice carbon fibre sheet cool), but alas I've never got round to it.

The manifold deffinately makes a difference to spool-up and top end; the standard item is VERY restrictive. The one I have is a TigART from israel! Take a look on CLS for more info; a couple of us on there now have them smile The turbine exit elbow is the other major restriction which strangles the engine.

To be honest, I've not undertaken any other major mods; many were planned but the brakes require an upgrade before the car has any more power! eek I did have serious plans, but unfortunately these won't be realised now... Well, not on this car anyways!

thanks i'll have a look, think thats the next thing to do, its running bloody great at the moment, forgot to mention had up to date intercooler fitted and the turbo spools up sp much quicker now, maybe with the manifold it would be even faster.

thanks for the info,

Martin

It is a bit! But once you start removing hoses/ancillaries it really isn't all that bad. The typical myth that everything is an 'engine out' job on a 'grale just isn't true smile

Not really any different to any other 4wd turbo rally car to be honest!

Nice cars, be happy to have both myself. A good thorough job on the golf and nice to see it still out there on the road. Both cutting edge cars of the time.

Any ideas on what you will do with the Golf. Its a pretty good spec as is.

Is it worth going 2.0l, you could probably get a reliable 180-200bhp with a few tweaks.

Keep us updated.

Well it's a good starting point, but the plan is: MSA cage install, slippy diff, rebuild/improve the spare KR engine I have, maybe mega-squirt, composite seats bolted to the floorpan, rear plexi-glass and then probably a few other weight saving/stiffening measures throughout smile

I have considered a 2.0 bottom end, but I already have a 1.8 motor kicking about ready and i'm not sure where a 2.0 block would leave me under MSA regs for sprints. As all the 1.8 blocks are essentially the same, I know I should be ok with the KR...

Besides, a decent KR build can still make 180bhp which is more than enough biggrin It should be a crazy car!

I will be sure to post regular progress. Rich

Very nice Rich, love them both (obviously the 'grale a bit more though smile )

If I get any enquiries for a 16v I'll point them in your direction.

Cheers,
Bryn.
