...so with the M3 diff I was unsure of what the difference was between that and standard. Can anyone tell me where I would feel the benefits of having a Limited Slip Diff?
I'm guessing you have the 3 litre M3 diff, with a 3.15 ratio. Evo diff is a wider casing and requires a lot more work to fit.saladdodger said:
awesome car, what made you buy a 2.8 and not an M3 instead.
Thanks. The reason I didn't go for an M3 is that I'm 19 (20 in 2 weeks) so the insurance was around £2800 per year. The insurance for this car is much more reasonable. Also as far as I can tell the M3s for this sort of money are a bit more ropey - not sure I could get a minter like this, which is important to me.MiniMadMike said:

Small update, car passed its MOT last week, only with an advisory for the front tyres which I knew were low anyway. Other than that I have just been enjoying the car really. The service light has just come on so thats the next bit of expense. Hopefully once that is out of the way I can spend some money on new tyres, and sorting a few other bits and pieces such as some body work and also I'd like to get the wheels refurbed. As they're the standard BBS splitties I'm thinking of getting the insides powder coated silver, the outsides polished, and then getting new bolts that are gold plated such as these:
I think that will give the wheels a really good look, hopefully not too OTT.

sorry about that/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ hadnt read the earlier comments on manifolds, a word of warning though with those wheels, finding someone to refurb these is a nightmare as no one wants to be responsible for talikg them apart and re-assembling them, i found this with the ones on my 328 touring. however it is just as easy to do yourself.
have the tyres removed then place the wheels face down, undo (v. carefully!) the 20 10mm or 11mm double hex nuts at the back of the center face. DO NOT remove the wheel center until you have taken the bolts out (brass drift and a hammer is best) then you can remove the wheel middle. this can now be taken to a powder coaters and is also now around 14" dia so will be alot cheaper to coat than a 17" wheel! if you can find just 1 odd matching wheel in a breaker then have it, purely for spares as i can promise you that when you come to do the nuts and bolts back up when re fitting there will be at least 2 or 3 that snap! no matter how careful you are!
when putting them back, if you put the bolts in before the center, it makes it a damn sight easier to line them up! hope this helps, its all just in my experience!

Thanks for the comments! Not sure about the manifold to be honest, im only going by what the previous owner told me. He did say it was the M50 manifold, which i thought was from the M3.
the M50 is actually the early 2.5 engine when bmw made the 328 they had to lower the power in order to fit it into a certain tax bracket, so they fitted the inlet manifold from the 320 to do this
when fitting the M50 manifold you can team it up with a remap, bbtb and a few other mods and depending on the condition of the engine you could see up to 220 bhp

Thanks for the info on the manifold - I since found out from some others that it was from the 2.5 engine. It is already coupled with a remap and a DaveF induction kit. Would like to take it for a power run, i was expecting around 220bhp.
I forgot to mention the car ran at Santa Pod a few weeks back. Managed a 15.0 at 92mph, but I didnt take much stuff such as the spare wheel out of the car which would have helped. I was pretty pleased with that time though.
Regarding the wheels, I'd rather find someone to do them for me to be honest. I've also found someone who will supply the gold wheel bolts for £1 each, so 20 per wheel means £80. More than happy to pay that really.

Thats VERY cheap. i was quoted £180 purely for standard bolts! I forgot to mention the car ran at Santa Pod a few weeks back. Managed a 15.0 at 92mph, but I didnt take much stuff such as the spare wheel out of the car which would have helped. I was pretty pleased with that time though.

BTW you won't get new bolts as they are no longer available from BBS...
you can actually get the bolts new but they cost about £130 per wheel which is just bonkers http://www.justmatz.co.uk/bbs-information.php
