not sure why one ought to be particularly 'brave' to own one of these!! It really isn't a complex car... it's just very annoying when little niggles come up which result in some dashboard thumping etc.

For £200.... how hard can it be!

Bargain and if it doesnt work out, sell it for parts and probably make a mint!

Brave man but a the end of the day you could probably weigh the beast in for £200. If the rust kills it at an MOT I will have those rear seats for my house they look ace!

It's an Italian car from nearly 30 years ago bought for less than the cost of a set of tyres for it. It has the potential to be almost as heartbreaking as falling in love with a prostitute. smile

Fortunately the car is in British Columbia, Canada ... and there is no such thing as MOT! lucky for us! - we don't have yearly inspections at all. The only test we have is for emissions control, and if the car is leaking anything major they won't test you. This year my Maserati was leaking coolant everywhere, so they refused to test it ... and that's why I'm replacing the water pump (which leaks so much that I have to top up the radiator every 2 miles!).

There is such a thing as a safety and mechanical inspection, but that only applies to cars which have been imported from another country, or brought in from another province. The great thing is, it doesn't apply to cars which were sold new in British Columbia... so you could have a car that has been sitting in a farmer's field for ten years, start it up, pay your insurance, and make sure it passes emissions check and off you go! Happened to me before actually - I bought a 1986 XJ6 S3 which had been sitting for four years outside, and it was perfectly fine to drive it home with bits falling off along the way.

Although refreshing, that does sound a little reckless, i can only imagine what death traps you have running around. Some people are cavalier to the point of danger with what they consider 'safe' ie brakes that barely stop the car, steering that you could rock a baby to sleep with, oil and coolant spills all over the road etc..

The MOT may have it's faults, but at least you know that the vast majority of cars sharing the road with you are safe.

The interior on these cars is truly pimptastic, and I mean that in a good way.

yeah the seats are also very comfortable though... although better for short people. The driving position is really weird... it's designed for people with short legs and long arms... because you end up driving it with arms stretched way out, but legs scrunched up between the pedals and the seat.

And I wasn't very used to driving with manual steering when I first got this car... the first time I tried parallel parking this car, I really worked up a sweat! It took bloody ages to park it right...

Ah ha, the classic "Italian gorilla" driving position beloved also of various Alfas.

Similar driving position adopted by many Peugeots also, never understood it!
