Same here. And i did (although this was.....woah....22 years ago now)
This was in 2000, mam kindly gave me her 1988 Renault 5 1.2 TR. It was a bit crusty, a bit battered...the heater didn't work...it had a wheel bearing going.....it didn't matter - i absolutely loved it and miss it greatly!
Bit like me with my first car, though I was 19 at the time, it was a 1994 Fiesta 1.3 Equipe given to me by my gran when she gave up driving. Yes it was an old car that was worth very little and had seen better days, but I was glad to get it.This was in 2000, mam kindly gave me her 1988 Renault 5 1.2 TR. When I was 17, if my parents had offered me any car, I’d have said thank you very much, put a pair of Cibie Super Oscars on it, (because they make cars go faster).
They couldn’t afford to buy me a car, my first car was a Vauxhall Chevanne, I absolutely loved that car, couldn’t afford the Cibie’s though.
I presume Cibie Super Oscars were tyres, to be honest I've never heard of themThey couldn’t afford to buy me a car, my first car was a Vauxhall Chevanne, I absolutely loved that car, couldn’t afford the Cibie’s though.
Edit I've just googled it, they are actually spotlights

Wow! I just wanted any car when I was 17, it didn't matter what it was it was the independence that mattered
I suppose it shows just how entitled the youth of today seems to be, but I'm derailing the thread once again. Cambelt and auxiliary belt are nearly done, it will need a new engine mount soon though as it is leaking oil, according to the guy doing the cambelt they are easy to change though.Bobberoo said:
It's an age thing, I remember Cibie Supers, along with Carlos Fandango wide wheels, bubble arches, Cherry Bomb silencers, Peco Big Bore exhausts, CB radios, window slats.........oh those were the days, when as a teenager it was a rite of passage to buy a car that was as much filler and chicken wire as bodywork, servicing it was an afterthought whereas "souping it up" was important, scraping it through an MOT each year if you hadn't crashed it in the meantime, and evening meets in car parks were all about what you'd done to your car not paid someone else to do for you!!!
Born in 1970, teenager during the 80's.

No need to apologise Eyersey1234, I am in fact old!!!
Glad to hear the cambelt is progressing nicely, Focuseseses do like to munch on engine mounts!!!
Yeah I remember someone else saying that about the engine mounts, I wonder which mark of Focus is worst for it. I wouldn't describe you as old, you aren't much older than my Mrs by the sound of it.Glad to hear the cambelt is progressing nicely, Focuseseses do like to munch on engine mounts!!!
Another mileometer moment yesterday, I doubt the Focus will do many more miles this year now, mostly going to and from work. It will have done around 11000 miles this year by the time New Year comes, though I need to get it in after Christmas to get a grumbling front wheel bearing changed. I'm also hoping to get up to Northumberland at some point to see the family, so that will be another 300+ miles added.
