sorry if I've missed it, but what goes on the V5? is it a c2 or a Evo, or will it need a Q plate?

That would need to go through the IVA test to be legit, because the chassis has been altered from the original design. If you had a seperate body/chassis arrangement (like a TVR) you could remove the body and replace it with something totally different and retain the ID of the car. Because this one is a monocoque, the shell is regarded as the chassis and any structural modifications to that mean the chassis has been altered from it's original design, so it's now not an Evo.
You'd need to prove all the major mechanical bits came from a single donor (the Evo) which shouldn't be an issuer, and you'd then receive an age-related plate (same age as the Evo, but not the Evo's actual reg).

Technically it can be whatever you want it to be on the V5, but that's the easy bit. Getting it through the IVA test will be a massive headache.

A Q would be the best it could hope for:

You won’t be able to keep your vehicle’s original registration number if 1 of the following applies:

  • it has fewer than 8 points {from the table on the website}
  • it has a second-hand or altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame
  • there’s evidence that 2 vehicles have been welded together to form 1 (eg ‘cut and shut’)
In these cases, you’ll have to get type approval for your vehicle. If it passes, you can register it and it will get a ‘Q’ prefix registration number.

Hello,

Im still working on this slowly as also doing a house renovation at the same time, as far as the v5 goes im going to get it finished then have it checked make a few calls to make sure its legit, im looking for some bucket seats at the mo and need a set of road legal tyres, iv had a go at rolling the wheel arches out to take the wheels as still unsure on what to do with arches with regards to fitting a body kit etc

I know you can buy a arch rolling tool but i just fancied a go at it myself just using what i had in the workshop and it hasent come out bad but i think i need to cut the back bumper and strech it a bit at each end

thanks for looking Will

Ahhh....that's a new one on me. Mind you, we don't deal with two vehicles being welded together at our place laugh I was only aware of the points system.

Well.....Q it is then.

Hi mate just stumbled on this and had a good read through, what a great combination of cars, I love the c2 and who doesn't love an evo, great work mate loads of potential for more power etc.
I love a small car with a big engine allways had a soft spot for the clio v6 thought it was light on power though.

If you get time check my little beast out, its along the same lines as yours but just a little smaller. We need some more videos of yours.
Cheers andy.

Hi Andy

The mini looks like a properly nice build a nice bit lighter than mine and like you say same sort of idea go light and fast with a proven tuneable engine, what sort of time scale has the build taken you

Thanks Will

Hi will

The mini has been a bit of a marathon really mate, its taken about 8 years but I had twins which slowed the build down a little as you can imagine.
I done work on the car when I had time and money to do it which wasn't very often. Lol
Working to get the car all sorted for this summers action, all trial and error at the mo.

What's the plans for the c2?

Hi bud....Great work on the car, genuinely one off idea. smile

Just wondering if youve sorted anyone to do your mapping work on the car?? Im from a company based in Mexbrough Rotherham, we specialise in evo's and have built / mapped a lot of high powered cars for customers ( currently working on a 800+ evo 8 build ), and i personally own a C2 GT turbo doing 347bhp@1.4 bar on the origional 1.6 engine. Id love to be involved in some work on this car for you.

Great to see this kind of 'community spirit' on PH!

This really is a cracking build. Will be interested to hear (roughly, if you're willing) your total spend at the end and how many hours you think you'll have put into it.

The idea of a unique/ one-off like this really appeals to me.

Keep up the good work and keep the updates and pictures coming!

There is something so right about this, the C2 is such a chunky little thing and the Evo running gear is a master stroke.

hehe

This makes me giggle.

If I win the Euromillions, I'm putting a Maserati engine in my C4 to make a modern day SM (it might have to have AWD too). smile
