You Sir are certifiable. I bloody love it.
I don't think the cops will though, although i doubt they will catch you unless they have a helicopter on standby.
Thanks I'll take that :-)I don't think the cops will though, although i doubt they will catch you unless they have a helicopter on standby.
Ariel Atom's can come with a front wing so not sure how illegal it is. Anyway, track use only (unless I'm going to a show or something, ha)

Hello all.

I just watched your video on OG and you come across as a real petrolhead! I love the car and I'm especially a fan of heavily turbo charged engines and the noises they make! Poor old OG looked terrified driving it! Oh, and this weekend.. this happened Be sure to keep an eye out on the 'Officially Gassed' YouTube channel later in the week for the video.
On another note, this is about as close as you can get to riding a motorbike it seems to me, do you ride at all? Reminds me of the first time I opened the throttle fully on a S1000RR, I don't think I stopped smiling for about a day after... well except for when I was slightly worried about the speed that thing generates and getting caught by a speed trap!
Brilliant build on the car anyway!

Great videoAfter the feature with Officially Gassed, it was time to finally get the geo and corner weighting done. It's been over 5 years since I'd had this done so it was probably due.
The last time the car was weighed it was just under 700kg, as time has gone on and parts have been replaced for lighter versions, I have been weighing them and my rough calculations put me somewhere between 620-630kg.
The final weigh in was
620.5kg wet. VERY happy with that and it puts the bhp/ton at 605.9 (assuming 376bhp when I know it's more because it was spinning).
For those of you that watched the OG video, you'll know that we didn't get chance to test out my 0-60 time. I decided to buy my own Dragy and see what I could do.
Despite many attempts (over 65+ back to back) the best I could manage was 4.23 seconds, which I'm disappointed with. I've used online gear calculators and I should be able to comfortably hit 60 in 2nd gear but for some reason I can't get more than 56-57mph and the change to 3rd is costing me time.
It is what it is I guess, I didn't make it to be a 0-60 car. I did some 0-100mph and that came in at low 9.9s which puts it on-par with a 911 turboS so it's doing OK once it gets rolling
As is clear from this thread, I can't leave things alone, so I'm already looking at ways to get the weight down under the magic 600kg figure. First up is swopping the 3mm steel floor under the engine bay for 1.5mm aluminium sheet.

The last day of August is MOT time for the car.
No issues, as you'd expect
Went out to the local landmark. Like Blackpool tower but without the lights, stag-dos and hen-dos.
Spent some more time on the local roads
Had an issue with some blown out exhaust manifold gaskets. Buy crap, buy twice. Cometic ftw.
Then I decided the car weighed too much.
First up, replacing my 3mm steel engine under-tray with aluminium.
Old one
New one
Nice 2.2kg saving for an afternoon.
On to more expensive things. My front brakes were heavy and I've always wanted 13s on the car but the brakes were too big to fit 13s.
As I'm running Cortina uprights it made sense to swop out the steel hubs for aluminium ones too.
The brakes were replaced with 265mm solid (from vented) wildwoods.
Wheels are now 13" compomotive cars with Avon ZZR tyres.
The car looks quite purposeful now I think?
The overall process saved just under 13kg of weight - but importantly it's all unsprung and rotational so should make a good improvement to the way the car handles, brakes and accelerates. The rear tyres are now also 215 instead of 195 so the extra rubber should help as well.
