P6000s - tyres that outlive the pyramids
I inherited them on three cars now, on the X300 they were bad, on the front of a Volvo V70 T5 they were absolutely totally fine, and on the rear of an NA MX5 they were lethal. Thinking about it my experience of Pirelli tyres generally has been highly inconsistent, the Cinturato P7 Blue touring tyres were very good but the 7,000 different tyres all badged "P Zero" I've had have all ranged from rubbish to very very rubbish.I can't see why you'd ever risk buying them new when you know absolutely anything badged Michelin, Goodyear, or Continental is going to be good.
Wheels in Motion is my default place for alignment, they have always done a brilliant job. I shall at some point get it checked.
Having spent many years experimenting with different tyres on various cars, I have settled with the Michelins. As I mentioned earlier, they are 100 times better than the OE Dunlops.
I had a little cross country blast this afternoon. I had almost forgotten how ridiculously quick it is when you are pushing on.

The chap from Wheels in Motion, Tony Bones, has sadly died and it looks like the tyre place next door has been bought by one of the big chains. I'm not sure who is now running the alignment side, with any luck it's someone who will hold up the stellar reputation that Tony built up.Having spent many years experimenting with different tyres on various cars, I have settled with the Michelins. Very nice Lance, I'm not in any way jealous would love to get back into another Jag again but at the moment funds certainly won't be allowing that! How is Graeme getting on with the old V12 waft machine?
Hi Lew.The proper old Jag is hibernating. Last time I saw it, I fixed a coolant leak (well, tightened a jubilee clip). Hopefully it will be out and about in the new year. It is still a beautiful thing and it will be good to have them out together.
Strangely, you can tell the lineage from behind the wheel. Even the view out of the windscreen is not dissimilar.
Time for a brief update. I have just been scammed out of £630 tax! That means that I must now have had the car for a whole year. November was an expensive month, Tax, MOT, service and insurance all at the same time.
My latest issue is the nearside rear light.
How it looks
How it is supposed to look.
So, I did what any old-fashioned halfwit would do. I took the lamp out so that I could WD40 the electrical bits inside.
Having taken it off, I soaked my foot with all of the water that poured out. It turns out that it was more than just a bit of condensation.
Once back in the warm, I found that the unit is totally sealed or at least sealed enough that you cannot access the insides.
Bugger. I did manage to squirt some WD40 in during a moment of optimism. Unsurprisingly it made no difference.
I shall have to formulate a plan in the New Year as I don't fancy paying £500 odd for a new replacement.
I am however still enjoying every mile.

There may be specialists that address them, as there are for other ageing vehicles such as the pixel repair on E39s.I am however still enjoying every mile.
In the meantime Merry Christmas everyone.

Try contacting Graham or James at Jag-Land in Norfolk. https://www.jaglanduk.com/contact-us I think they're specialist breakers of Jaguar and Land Rover, but I'm not sure. However, they do keep new old stock items. Last year they supplied me with a brand new central shifter unit and charged about half what Jaguar wanted.....

Bugger on the rear light Lance. I'd say not to use wd40 though as it doesn't conduct electricity, so isn't likely to fix anything contact related.
I was planning to go to Bicester on Sunday but decided against it due to being ill with that lergy that's going around. I hope it's a decent day for you.
Catch you at the SS on the 29th.

Greetings Lance, Just finished reading your thread after your kind reply in mine. You look to have had quite an enjoyable ownership so far, minor niggles excepted. One question if I may, am I right in thinking from one of your photos that your car was purchased from Chiltern of Bovingdon? I only ask as they keep having cars that are very close to my prefered spec come in, and I suspect they'll be where I ultimately buy from (because frankly I've failed to talk myself out of it, so it's now a question of when not if).

I did indeed. They also do the maintenance. They always have a good selection and are friendly. Are you fairly local?
I'm in the Midlands, but I'm not daunted by distance for the right car as I do a significant amount of driving for work, if anything I consider it part of the process of finding the right car. I bought my current car from a dealer near Bury St Edmunds, one before that was Birmingham. I sort of gathered they were fairly decent from the research I've put in, but I'm glad to have first hand confirmation of my suspicions.
