Better patent it quick! (and make a 'technological investment company' that somehow still gets investors 20 years later, of course)

Now THAT looks a lot of fun. How close to stage rallying is it?

At that event probably fairly close - half of it you'd go pretty damned well with a rally car, but the other half you'd probably be cursing as you crawled over it.

laugh yes, it'd have to be a Safari spec rally car.

Having navigated in both types of event that's right - you can get some high speed smooth stuff, it's the other rough/boggy & severe bits that would cause an issue.

And roughly what would it cost you per event? What's put me of stage rallying has always been the costs starting at 5-600 quid per event in fuel and wear and tear items in even the lowest categories.

How do these compare?

We do a weekend with less than £500, including entry fee, tow vehicle fuel, race fuel, food, etc - and we probably travel a lot further than most to get there, some do it on a chunk less!
Of course, some of the top boys do it on a whole lot more, but they tend to be running through 4 tyres per event too...we're still running on the ones we bought at the beginning of last season.

Thanks chaps - although not for the link smile

Are there any events run in N Yorks? I might have to go and watch one to see what they're like.

There might be some with NORC, but I'm not sure.

It'd be well worth a road trip down to Waterbeach at the end of the month though, usually sunny, fairly flat, smooth track so easy to get around for spectating.

Phonecall to say some shiny new go faster parts are finished, well, they need some grinding once I take some bits up to match 'em, but 99% there...biggrin

Taken bits up to have them finished off, so should hopefully have a nice shiny straight-cut gearset in our hands next week biggrin

Bit of a chunk of cash for us, but not silly money, looking forward to that old-school rally whining gearbox wink
Quick check over the car reveals it's absolutely shagged the rear tyres at Walters though, huge chunks missing out of the tread frown

As previously mentioned, 'mad as a box of fannies' or whatever the saying was. Just spent a quality hour reading through the thread, and bookmarked for future reference. Top work you pair of nutters, good luck for the season!

Just read all of this.

Amazing project, doesn't seem to have been kept the specs for more than a month ha!

Would love to have the skill to be able to do a project like this!

I've given up thinking of a 'spec' for it, it get's upgraded every chance we get, bloody thing gets more updates than the entire F1 field in a year* biggrin

Still got the fancy bit of the suspension to make yet but I'm getting distracted by cogs...I hate gearboxes....
