Today I have been looking at the rear end as I want to refurb the cosmetics of the supra diff.

I think my t45 cradle that was bespoke for the supra diff must have been mixed up with another customers steel one as it isn’t T45 unfortunately (the cage is) and the supra diff doesn’t fit….never mind I will just have to carry on.

The diff output adapter fouled the bar and did not allow the diff to sit right:

I am done with sending stuff away to companies and waiting for it to come back so out with the grinder:

I will now weld in new metal to close the hole and add back as much strength as I can. In the long run I will consider a new cradle or have this one properly sorted.

As you can see the diff did not sit right before and the front mount was in the wrong place. This mount is also too long and was hitting the boot floor, I will have to remove metal from both to allow clearance.

Great project, but hasn't this build been going since the time of Noah's Ark? What happened to MK Motorsport building the car?

This makes me smile, I owned a number of 1.6 and 1.9 205 gti’s when I was younger. Can’t wait for more updates.

Yes, the car was away from me for just over 3 years. It was supposed to be 6 months. The car wasn’t finished so with the help of some Passion Ford forum mates I got it back and now I am doing it.

I am not gonna get in to the whole MK thing and arguments as it is not worth it. Onwards and upwards.

3mm steel gone back in to add as much strength back as I can, it is pretty well braced and I will get a race engineer I know to check it all over. I am no pro welder but my new welding set and air fed mask is a god send.

Little bit of tidying up left to do.

It will be blasted and powder coated once I know I am 100% done on it.

What a wonderful and unique Pug. I remember reading about it back in the day.

We had a new 1.9 and were dreaming about a lowly Turbo Technics conversion. This is on another level!
My friend had a 1.9 turbo technics, they were very popular but probably awful to drive on full boost.
I remember, at the time, the TT205 with 175bhp was an EVO mag’s writer preferred cross country B-road car

They did a good review in comparison with the Gutmann 205 MI-16

Good stuff. A friend and I bought some fancy adjustable TCAs from MK, they fouled my friends car so he had to modify the brake bells! Still to try fitting them to mine.

I had those to begin with and then went WRC uprights due to fouling issues, I had xr 4x4 hubs iirc?

Nearly done for the day so time for a tidy up and test fit.

That should do it. The 4x4 Cossie flanges fit inside the supra adapters as they are much smaller so those won’t foul the tubing.

I may have to add exhaust hangers yet but will see.

When I bought my steel grey 1.9 gti it was in a terrible state, I rebuilt it and I was looking for parts and saw an advert on pistonheads race cars for the red car, it was 7 miles from my house, I immediately recognised it from 20+ yrs ago so jumped in the car and went straight there, the chap did not really want to sell it as it was going to fund a new driveway. He knew it was getting tired and reluctantly did a deal, I took it home and the wife was not too pleased as this was car number 6 or 7. I ran it for a bit and then decided to get stuck in. It was originally going to be a comfy road car but the cage and floor in it were really not up to 500bhp+ and it would wheel spin all 4 wheels in the dry in second so I needed to add some strength and better geometry etc.

Here is the new engine ready to go in.

The head has been done, arrow crank, proper pistons and rods, cams swapped, 2.2 stroker, big wing sump. It is linered for strength with 10 long studs to keep the head down as it runs over 2.5 bar of boost.

Motor Addicts have just featured a similar concept 106 on their YouTube channel.

Not as high spec as your 205 but very interesting.
Just watched it. Mine was quite like that when I started using it, the t38 is quite an old Skool turbo and with modern ecu and a twin scroll turbo you can have much less lag and more power.

The close ratio box also helps as the standard Cossie is very long geared, I have 16 inch wheels, 3.9 diffs and close ratio box so once it is on boost it stays there.

I also have a low boost map for 400hp, it feels more naturally aspirated then.

Love the 106 shape, great little car he has there.

Rear hubs on the linkages.

Inside of the carbon fibre bonnet. It’s painted on the outside.

Front hubs

This shows the old intercooler which is sealed to the front bumper to force air through, the new one will be the same but is a huge spec r item.

This is the control panel and steering wheel controls I have for it.

I found a mold off an original Grp b t16 rear spoiler, not exactly sure how to get it to fit correctly.
