Why get smaller wheels?
As someone who doesn't really know too much about kit car building other than lighter weight what's the advantage of smaller wheels and less low profile tyres?
Light cars dont need big rims and low pro tyres, they work better on a higer sidewall, plsu there is a better choice of rubber, AND they look damn good......As someone who doesn't really know too much about kit car building other than lighter weight what's the advantage of smaller wheels and less low profile tyres?

As above, a number of reasons. As someone who doesn't really know too much about kit car building other than lighter weight what's the advantage of smaller wheels and less low profile tyres?
Primarily weight saving over 15s. 7s are also designed with 13" wheels in mind so they drive all round better on 13s than 15s.
Bigger sidewall works better for a light car. With a small sidewall the tyre doesn't have enough flex for the low weight.
There are also literally hundreds of scrubbed tyres available to buy from people that race 7s. So it's a good money saver as well.
Another good video, enjoying the progress.
It seems gearing is killing your 0-60 potential completely, probably not a concern as it's hardly a drag car but that shift to third is just dropping you into no-mans land it seems, car just seems to lose all of its energy!
I'm sure some different gearing would see you easily into the mid-low 3s.

You're right, good ears and eyes! I noticed an issue with the accel-enrich at high rpm causing a big lean spike. I've made some tweaks and it feels loads better but I've not re-timed yet.I'm sure some different gearing would see you easily into the mid-low 3s.
That's being said, I'll still always need 3rd and I don't want to mess about with gear ratios etc. It's just too much work. The car may be going DCT over Winter also so any work I did on the gears would be wasted money.

also banging the limiter wont be helping
You're not the first to say this but if I don't keep it on the limiter for a bit there simply isn't enough wheel speed in 3rd gear and the car just bogs in third gear.I know what it sounds and looks like from the videos but I can assure you, after having the car with this engine in for 5 years, I know how to get the best from its performance.
For those of you that watch the Officially Gassed YouTube channel, you'll already have know what went on last Friday.
I was invited to take part in the first of a new series for Jamie's channel called OG Battles.
Jamie puts similar cars up against each other in a serious of tests; 0-60, quarter mile time trials and then a quarter mile and roll-race.
I won't spoil the results of the video in terms of who wins but here are a few photos -
As you can see in the image below, after just two runs on an un-prepped surface, I managed to achieve an 11.78@122mph.
I'm so happy with that for my first time ever doing a quarter mile run in this car.
In terms of 0-60 times, I achieved a 4.05 in the time-trial, however I was able to spend some time on the runway by myself at the end of the day, and I'd remembered to take my Dragy with me.
I achieved -
So I've finally made it into the 3s. That's a rwd, manual car and I'm changing gear twice to get there! So chuffed with that. Finally did it.
I've made a 'behind the scenes' video of the day, but I can't post it for a few weeks as I don't want to give anything away from other videos shot on the day. I'll post a link up to it once it's ready.
I hope you enjoy the OG video
