My Lotus Evora
Discussion
Wow! What great service at Lotus Silverstone. Got the TC light sorted which turned out as expected to be a faulty steering angle sensor (despite the swines at Lotus Bradford telling me it was the cruise control harness which was then needlessly replaced) and while it was in it had a new O2 sensor and an MOT.
They even lent me a car so I spent a few hours tootling about Northampton/Daventry and I'll be honest I did struggle and ended up going to three supermarkets and Wickes just for a wander about.
8+ hour round trip with 35.0mpg
Here it is outside next to one with a very similar plate

What did you replace it with?
A caterham and used mostly for trackdays. Don't regret it one bit. p4cks said:
Yeah I've looked at those but sadly it would have to stay outside, the garage has a Clio V6 in it and there's no way I'd have that outside. I've actually been looking at VX220 Turbos again which are a lot more fun than the Evora and also be able to be kept outside.
Punt the clio and/or get a caterham or store it with one of the many companies that will take it to track for you so you just 'arrive and drive'. Depends if you love trackdays or road driving....sevensfun said:

I think I'll be buried with the Clio so punting that on is out of the question I'm afraid ha! I'm not that fussed on trackdays really (prefer fast road driving on the continent) so I think that a VXT may be a decent compromise.
Yeah - that sounds perfect. We all appreciate different things.sevensfun said:

No updates really, other than I'm a bit bored of it
I got the same after a while. Too special for a daily and novelty wore off for a 'hoon'. “Too special for a daily” was what I thought when I was thinking of buying one. The cost meant it would have been my only vehicle.
I do really enjoy trackdays, so have settled on a daily driver and trackday car that can be used for a sunny Sunday morning B-road blast.

That makes me a little sad.

The car gains significant attention and that’s a bit boring even the good attention but so is the driving close / boy racer reaction. The car did raise a massive smile once I got the tubular and started In the garage after 2-10 weeks break away from it “Too special for a daily” was what I thought when I was thinking of buying one. It was a great trackday car on a very wet Spa LOT it then I realised it was numb and grew to hate the flaws (box/engine). Sounds like I don’t like it, absolutely 100% would have one if money / space was no object
Chris Harris said they have no right to be as good as they are and so they really are worth owning if you can (tubular a must)
Yep, the exhaust that mine had on (the £1K factory upgrade one) was quiet as a mouse so I had a straight-through system made which meant I could do away with a rear silencer and the third cat.

I was actually in £310 profit after this change, which was nice.

Similar storey on the boredom part , i owned a 2010 evora.. wonderful car.. i did get bored of it quite quickly tho.. its an odd car ..
wonderfull looking car.. a bit too big.. i tried to love it kept it for 2 more years thinking it was me, but i always took out my 2002 elise with just 135bhp, because it was just more fun and involving.. at legal speeds that is and getting to legal speeds too.. , the evora is just uneventful really on the roads, sure you got a wonderful noise, 3rd decat and sports back box) buts its a bit too big and too fast to get anywhere near its limit. i even had the cr gearbox which made so much more fun over the long ratio box . Other than a few small bits nothing went wrong to fix, and to be honest its a total ball ache to work anyway so its a dealer job so no satisfaction to work on it if you like using the spanners either, after a while i thought it was because i was using the elise so much more that i had fallen out of love with my evora so i sold it.. the elise that is, BIG mistake having just only the Evora made me realise just how much more fun on the roads for a sunday blast the elise was.. and how much i missed that involving drive i slogged it out for another 8 months with just the evora regretting my elise sale evrry time i jumped in it trying to relive my elise driving excitment before eventually sticking it with lotus silverstone sell. lucky it sold within a few months .. in its replacement i have a Westfield running 205 bhp i built which is absolutely heroic to drive.. absolutely nothing comes close to the driving experience than a 7 type car. and every petrol head should have on at some time in their life for sure.. . a clio 182 best cheap hatch you can buy, although prices going up now it seems , small , fast , cheap to fix ... , and a 1973 lotus elan sprint in need of work..
I dont miss the evora one bit.. too many other nice cars to enjoy.. that do a much better job of giving me pleasure in ownership
