Yeah, leasing for me is fine.

I'd rather pay a rather decent price and not have to look up forums every night and schematics as to what could be wrong. My time is worth more than that.

Each to their own.
I can't wait to follow your readers' car thread! sleep

Thanks for your valuable contribution to the thread. I'd say anyone who posts on PH hasn't got a leg to stand on when it comes to the value of their time hehe

That is fair enough and that’s what you pay for if you don’t enjoy a bit of light tinkering and talking cars. I actually enjoy this, a car doesn’t feel like mine until i’ve broken something, which you’re too afraid to do on a lease car.

You could buy a D2 (or any 20 year old performance saloon) and have similar issues or none.

In this latest example of ‘schematics’, Audi no longer stock the lower front bumper, they have called Audi heritage and they don’t either. For most of the car, I could just take the car to the garage a couple of times a year but i’m on an OEM recommissioning mission. I also don’t want to be the owner who breaks the full Audi Service History.

Anyway, let us know what you’re driving for similar enjoyment?

If the leasing threads are anything to go by, it’s probably a *really* interesting Volvo. He’ll probably tell you “its 20%” too, whatever that means...

My second MOT with the S8 and some fairly easy fixes in the capable hands at SE Autoworks in Guildford:

Horn not working - connection issues
2 x lower arms

So its been approx. £3k to recommission and £500 a year in non-service items (if I make it a year on just servicing), not bad really.

The list of what has been changed since my ownership (2k miles and into year 2 now):

- 4 x Bridgestone tyres AO
- Rear calipers
- Disks and pads
- New front under tray and a host of clips -
- Cambelt, water pump, tensioners and thermostat + major service incl. brake fluid
- Parking sensors + electrical gremlins resolved
- Coolant pipes and clips
Above carried out @ Audi £££

2 x front lower arms + horn fixed @ SE Autoworks £

And a new battery...

(all Genuine Audi parts used, full Audi service history maintained at 83k)

Current plan is some minor body work touching up including a machine polish, Le Mans 2020 and a few Goodwood breakfast meets when it's on topic.

The Audi D2 A8/S8 really is a wonderful car.

I picked up a sub 100k mile, face lift 2.8 fwd for just over a grand back around May.
It was my unstanding that I'd have to spend a little on recommisioning; so I gave it to my VAG specialist who gave it the thumbs up that it was worth spending the money on.
It needed:
Front brake pads (and calipers as it was discovered that they were seized)
Two front anti roll bar drop links
Nearside control arm

I also had the oil and filter changed
The wheels refurbed back to silver
New centre caps
Two new front tyres (Dunlops)

So the car owes me 2.5k all in.

Jobs to do are:
Mileage and time displays on dash are faded
Central locking internal button doesnt work
Annoying click from centre of dash (likely HVAC flap motor)

I've covered nearly 3k since June and it's been a joy. It's one of the only cars that I can jump out of a 4 hour journey in and not have lower back ache - the main reason that I sold the W211 E350 that I had before the A8 was the awful seats.

I'll likely keep the A8 for some time as nothing that's as good on the motorway (where I spend 95% of my time) comes close for the money, and there's less borkage potential...in 2.8 guise anyway.

It's funny, my love of Audis comes from my old man, who's had several of them since 1990. He's 63 and owns a mk1 and mk2 TT, I'm 36 and have the big wafty barge biggrin. He does love the A8 though.

Pic below, but missing the centre caps (now fitted)

sounds reasonable to me. got so much envy when you post pictures, such a lovely barge with a silky smooth and capable power plant... My itch is getting worse!

Yeah but more to the point, let's have an update on Jonno02s whatever the fk he's leasing with a 2 litre four banger!

Glad it's treating you well OP, and no out of the ordinary expenses.

Loving the burgundy, great colour.

Here’s mine after a clay bar, still needs a machine polish though:

Hi All,

S8 still going strong, however I am tempted by something with a flat 6 given the kids can now get in and out themselves.

So i’m testing the water in PH classifieds (only).
The advertised price is my purchase price + the recommissioning costs over the last year.

As you were

Cheers

Has anyone got a picture of their D2 in the air without a front bumper on?

I think I'm missing a part - the lower bumper / spoiler has a number of holes that are not bolted to anything

Even with all these pictures I can't see the attachment?

Only just seen this thread, on my D2/A8 these holes where to attach the front bumper to the undertray, I know because I half pulled the bumper off on a high kerb (reversing backwards) and had to replace all the clips which sheared.

So a few random Friday S8 related things:

CarWow has a cool video with the D2 S8 vs a new A8 50TDI and S3. The new A8 50 TDI has a 0-60 of 5.7 seconds and only beat the facelift D2 S8 by 0.3 (13.9) seconds on the quarter mile - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-AJryI0WF0

Other than that, looking like i'm going to keep my car into 2020 and take it to Le Mans :-)

Managed to find that my car has had some warranty work on the gearbox:

There was a known issue with the cable interlock for the parking brake function - it could slip and from memory you were theoretically able to take it out of park without your foot on the brake. My old one had that done when I bought it in 2010 IIRC - only thing it ever went to a main dealer for!

Morning All,

Approaching my 3rd year of ownership and other than the costs to get everything back up to scratch in year 1, the latest costs have been service items only.

Saw this during my browsing - Led Zeppelin d2 S8 at Bonhams:

https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/26109/lot/72/

Always thought it was a rock stars car haha
