Postman delivered our Strut braces, Tein Springs and Cambor bolts today woohoo

Had the GF clean the braces up with abit of Nail varnish remover (gets literally any off of metal) they're now pretty gleaming.

Springs and Bolts will be fitted when we put all the suspension back together after the refresh and repaint.

Front brace is already on and looking good.

my mr2 is 1991 with 3sge engine, imported in uk in 1999. It need few things doing to it. Im working on it when its dry out.

It has HKS air filter and decatted big bore exhaust of unknown make but its stainless steel. because its not rusty as rest of exhaust system :P

leaking rocker gasket which im fixing this weekend
wrong size wheels 16" with mixed 205/50/16 tyres all around, want get rev3+ wheels with good tyres.
Dashboard cluster lights
replace driver side switches bezel
fix the sills, not because its rusty but very bent, wrongly jacks location.
remove whole AC system
remove audio stuff
minor stuff for MOT.
full Service.

I cant wait to drive it on track.

Did you ever do the review on the MAXSPORT RB5 tarmac slick tyres that you mention in another thread/other website? as I can't find anything?

Awesome, it'll be a good laugh.

Regards to the Maxsport RB5, I wrote a review and submitted to TyreReviews.co.uk. I can't find it now though, it's was 2 years ago now though.

In short they're cheap and offer good grip and wear rates for the money, not as bad as expected in the rain given the tread pattern however road noise is rather bad especially in a stripped out car.
They gave abit more steering feedback due to the pretty much solid sidewalls compared to the T1R's I was running before them.
I read various things about the being hard to balance and bla bla being re moulded tyres, they're no harder to balance than regular tyres and hey they're bloody MSA aprroved so no danger of shoddy beads etc.

So far I've got the N/s suspension all off and surprisingly all bushes are fine it's the ball joints that have seen better days so new ball joints and Track rod ends are on their way.

I've sprayed the suspension components with an anti chip wax oyl rubberised paint which looks ok but more to keep things fresh and keep surface rust away.
Whilst the suspension is off the wheel arches and underside will also get a coat of waxoyl.
Do it once and do it right !

This will set us back alot longer than first imagined but hey ho it'll be worth it.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to give them a go. It will be the 18"s and have gone for the harder of the two compounds [med as no hard available apparently]. What size and compound did you use and would you use again or have you since found other tyres that suit your needs better??

Mine were Medium compound 205-50-16 iirc.

I would use them but for the MR2 toyo R1R's that are better in all weathers are about £10 more a corner so would out weigh the benefits of the Maxsports.

The RB5's are Tarmac rally cut slicks therefore they must be alot tuffer than something like an R1R. I did a trackday with them at Abingdon which consists of rough concrete and Tarmac, barely any tread depth lost. I had them on the front perminantly for about 4-5months and had a good 4k out of them before I sold the car, I'd say they were about 70% worn by that point.

I have been abit quiet on here recently due to work etc.

The MR2 has had all the suspension bar the OS front corner (still to do) stripped down, cleaned up/ refurbed and replaced if necessary.

New track rod ends
New front and rear ball joints
New ARB drop link front and rear
Tein S tech springs
Camber bolts on the front
Strut braces front and rear
All surface rust underneath was ground off and wax oyled alongside anti stone chip on the suspension and inner arches

Next up will be an alignment then abuse it again knowing its all fresh and as good as can be woohoo

Also a heads up for a possible new readers cars thread for something I bought on eBay the other day....... Collecting on Saturday..... And erm it likes going very sideways wink
