Hartwell Imp - Restoration
Discussion
So plan of action for next steps is to fit up water pipes and all ancilaries to the motor, I bought a refurbed water pump from the IMP club last week so need to fit that along with the bigger diameter pulleys, I have one for the water pump that came with the car so just need to sort the one for the new Denso alternator, going to need some brackets made up I imagine, I have the cast one that comes as standard so will need to adapt that I suspect.
I have new AP clutch not shown in photo so that can be bolted up.
Additional silicone hose arriving tomorrow so I can fit that, and measure up for the hose that needs to go to the motor and decide how to fit that.
Also think we have sourced a gearbox so thats good news.
Busy Busy ....

Interesting air filter set up. Memory tells me I have never seen a steel shelled Imp that could run with large air filters when the engine is installed. As I recall the works cars ran a modified Sunbeam Tiger air filter box as it was the only thing that would fit between the carbs and the chassis leg.
The carbs are normally horizontal when the engine hangs under its own weight on the rear mount and two gearbox mounts. Has the manifold been manufactured to be slightly downdraft and list the carbs above the chassis leg?
No such issues on the Maguire Stiletto that I used to run as it was all spaceframe with no chassis legs in the way.

I was about to say the same thing. You may find the engine isnt rotated fully at the moment. I had to use some very short filters on mine. The carbs are normally horizontal when the engine hangs under its own weight on the rear mount and two gearbox mounts. Engine is not yet in fitted location, you are right it will be very very tight as on all the Group 2 cars the chassis leg had a cut out to allow the twin 40's to be fitted, and yes motor needs twisting clockwise, its just there so i can measure for the hoses ......... and make brum brum noises whilst sitting in the bucket seat :-)The carbs are normally horizontal when the engine hangs under its own weight on the rear mount and two gearbox mounts. As I suspected the battery master switch was not right inside, somehow it was turning through 180 degrees instead of just 90, really annoying as meant I had to re arrange bracket and drill again .... Replaced entire unit.
Fitted an additional pull cord to the battery master switch as I was not entirely happy with internal manual option.
Fitted the 7.25 AP racing clutch
Sourced alloy pulley from WOSP to fit new alternator and unbelievably they all line up ...
Had screen and rear side windows fitted ...
Getting there ....
