Well done slow! Keep the faith! Just wanted to tell you that I was working at this guy's farm when we walked round the back of the steading and their were about 15 cars and pick ups parked up. The farmer proudly told me he had never bought a new car.............and then followed that with.......and I've never sold a second hand one!

Well, yes, but it isn't jealousy, it is interesting to read about, didnt think that is a crime, you make it sound like making the Div kid at school do something dangerous, like that kid who would eat Daddy long Legs for 20p.
rofl I forgot about 'that' kid at school!

I enjoy Slow's threads, I would love to see his red E30 back on the road. If he is enjoying himself that is all that matters but sadly that old Roller would need some serious experienced specialist care to see the road again and it probably isn't economical, I wish this wasn't the case, but best of luck to Slow for trying if he makes a start on the old lady.

Nobody can deny the enthusiasm is there.

Worst case scenario, he's a Rolls-Royce owner, which must be nice

And now it runs, he has a Rolls-Royce V8 to use for whatever he will. Which is pretty cool

The heart failure would come from trying to push them all into the same shot!

Seized brakes, flat tyres, non running engines wink

Our farmer has two full size bulldozers, (more in bits) a few tractors, several old Mercs, an old Rover, a four post lift, several personal workshops, old truck gear, every tool known to man, a huge JCB with a tree grwoing in the middle of it etc...I don't think he has had a new car, either.

The list just goes on and on with regards what he has had and what he owns. He said to me if I ever want some Merc wheels for my old barge, he probably has eight or ten sets laying around somewhere if he could find them. hehe

He's never been short of money and owns some prime acreage down this way, yet, the only thing stopping him reparing his own HGV's, tractors and slightly dented Rolls bumper etc is that his fingers do not work so well now he is in his 80's. He still has a go, mind.

We helped him straighten out a bracket on the Rolls Royce bumper and asked if he had a vice. "Sure" he said. We followed him outside from the garage / pit area, then down the side of another building, turned the corner and there, sat on a metal WW2 table which was used to shelter from bombings, was a vice the size of a small car hehe Asking to borrow a ratchet handle resulted in one of the biggest I have seen being produced!

I also only recently found out that he built all of the buildings himself and that he and "A couple of mates" cut down hundreds of trees on the land themselves before chopping them all up and flogging them off. He's also going to attempt to cut up one of his old articulated lorry trailers, even though he is as old as he is.

Another time, I saw blood running down his arm and dripping from his hand and when I mentioned it, he said "That's ok.........don't tell the wife! She sits me down and "dabs" me with cotton wool and stuff" It was then I also spotted part of his finger missing; a finger he told his mates to leave behind when he chopped it off because he couldn't be bothered to look for it in the rain.

He only purchased the Rolls and Bentley because he used to always buy old Mercs / Jags etc and work on them (he even has a portable welder on a trailer which he used to tow and do welding at the side of the road!) but decided the time was right, at his age, to give up on much of that and enjoy some luxury barges.

He's SLOW in 60 years time, I am sure of it and he's one of the most interesting people I have ever met.

And if you think SLOW is quite mad, you should hear the tales this guy has to tell!

Thank goodness these people exist.

I'm amazed this thread had turned into people more focused on me than the car.
Well.. the lack of any recent progress is probably the main reason for that; I know you said earlier that you've been busy so it's understandable, but when there's no update on the car then people who are interested will shift their focus elsewhere (and in this case it's on to you and the soundness of your mind and your decisions).

Get some work done! (it's the best way to prove the naysayers wrong).

Not really. The types of posters who love a good moan, moan from the very start and will continue to moan until they either realise they are seriously outnumbered, they get bored and find another thread to moan in, or they realise they are no longer getting the reactions they require and they vanish. You see it all the time on these and any other forum. I don't think anyone here who said "Good on you" has suddenly started to focus their attention on his sanity.

The 'normal' people know that this is a huge task and will just wait to see what happens.

Unfortunately, people tend to forget how they would behave in real life due to this being the internet.

For example, I have been accused of having a personal issue with someone on here, yet I have never met them. How could some text on a screen become personal?!

Nothing they could do here would change a single thing in my life or make me feel anything other than the happy chap I always am. I would have a beer with anyone on these forums no matter what was said. Others treat it completely differently and quite honestly, need to take a huge step back and think about what they are doing.

I understand that, plenty of other threads on here which dont have alot of progress made either. I seem to get the same people on here bhing though. It got updated with a picture of it on a flatbed by someone else so not like I was trying to get attention of them haha.

Should be able to get it into the garage towards the end of this month and start making it run from its own fuel tank. Too cold outside without the log burner going.

Looking forward to it - plenty of support for you on here. thumbup

It is a thought having to go outside at this time of year to do any work on cars - short days, cold dark nights and stty weather - I don't blame you for waiting until it improves. Plenty of time to get some ideas rolling about in your head...

Doesnt help that my Mums corvette barn find has been populating half of its space for the last year. I know its her garage but its a pain as its on axle stands in bits so cant be moved either.

I have many a idea rolling around in my head and it involves pissing off every single Rolls Royce purist in the process.

I have really crusty front arches so ones like this might well have to happen.

You say all this, but you seem quite upset by things I've said in this forum. confused

I think you should probably realise that not everyone thinks the OPs actions are a good idea. They're entitled to say so, it's no big deal.

Fkn shut up you lot!

Wouldn't it be great if Slow ended up doing something like this, doesn't have to be as tidy, he could junk the standard (stock is a yank term) suspension and fit whatever instead.

I'd love to have something like this.

Back on topic, again....

This is the way to go mate thumbup

Slow, when I was in my late teens my older brother and I had motorbikes. They filled the garage in various bits and we had 5 round the side of the house in various states of disrepair.

There were: A GPz550, Honda Silverwing, Honda CB125S, Suzuki X-7, YammaGamma (RG250 Suzuki with a Yamaha RD350YPVS engine after I wrote off the RD350 in France), Honda XBR500 and quite possibly something else.

Many other bikes came and went, all needing work and the ones we used for a living always being tinkered with.

All our mates were bikers and we loved it. So many great memories of a gang of us on the drive / in the garage mending someone's bike or building something daft with them.

Cars came and went too. Always sheddy things until we were both in our mid 20s and I went up market!

Over those years of tinkering we learned masses about mechanics. Now we're in our 40s and drive newer cars, he still has a bike. All the little jobs we do ourselves and save a heap on garage bills. One of the gang is still building bikes and is an author of travel books on bikes. The rest are all still handy guys who can fix all sorts of things. Some have fun cars. What we all have are great memories of having fun getting oily and making things work, and occasionally breaking them!

I like your threads and think you're the right kind of bonkers with a very interesting future. Keep it up!
