So it’s going to be one of ‘those’ issues. PDC has been faultless on way home and all the sensors are ticking nicely.

Time will tell.

Think I've maybe suggested this in your thread for a previous issue, but on the modern Jags a lot of electrical "issues" turn out to be simply a case of a battery that's not quite in prime condition, e.g. as a result of lots of short runs and/or periods of not using the car. Couldn't be something as simple as that, could it?

I did wonder this but there are other things it does to indicate the battery is low. That said, it sat for nearly 3 weeks at Christmas and hasn't done too much in Jan although a trip to Edin last week will have given it a wee boost. I think i may just stick a Ctek on it for the weekend to make sure that's not the issue. Thanks for the perspective.

No problem, hope it turns out to be that straightforward. I really ought to get round to installing the CTek I bought for mine some months ago now... smile

I haven't been in a Chim before but have passengered in some of its younger relations. I would imagine there's still a fair amount of bodyroll, tyre flex (probably 50 profile!) and flex to the Chim so wouldn't be entirely surprised if one of the suspension settings got close enough to the handling of the Chim in one way or another. The M6 certainly feels nicely low slung but it is still a sizeable car and can't absolutely hide that fact.

For me, with the suspension on full hard and my new tyres, it's just as pointy as the C63 it replaced and whilst the 997 2S that preceded that would be pointier still it also came with a nervousness that the M6 doesn't have at all. I feel like it will deal with anything I throw it at and gives oodles of feedback in the process. It will never step out unexpectedly. It needs provoking or overdriving to do so and both of those are conscious choices.

I would thoroughly recommend,
Thanks to this thread I'm off to see one on Monday afternoon! thumbup

It’s only another one of those bloody footwell lights that the Russians must have fitted!!! I am really confused as it can’t be an effective footwell light placed all the way under the seat like that.
I think I’m going to remove it and hook it up to a power source. I have a feeling it’s some sort of infrared or black light. It’s purpose? Who knows but I’m still half expecting to find a secret handgun slot somewhere! biggrin

You and me both - ever since I first saw this car and learnt of the Russian connection. There's something just very '007' about your car. Are you sure your surname is really Bond, James ;-)

I'm really pleased to hear than and genuinely hope you enjoy what you see enough to want to take it home.

Stick up any questions you may have, or better still pics of you driving it home! biggrin

Haha! Sadly i haven't be issued this one by Q dept. it;s funny as clearly some very good money has been spent on it, it's had a nice life in interesting places and has these rather commercial grade lights fitted. The mind does boggle!

Off to see an 07 M6 cab! One of my concerns is the mileage - 87k - as this seems to be in the realm of issues and out of the warranty period. Lots of questions for the dealer!

In my experience a BMW warranty is hard to secure after 60k miles, which is a pity as it's a great hand holder with these beasts. It may be that the car has had some preventative maintenance anyway and I know of many cars that have done in excess of 100k without major mechanical issues. Either way, low mileage examples are getting very thin on the ground now, unless of course you have access to FSB staff cars like James ;-).

What kind of warranty will Hamilton Gray offer? (I presume it's this car as the link didn't work).

BTW, I don't know how closely you follow the M6 market but if it's the HG car, it has been with them since at least July last year - originally up for £17,950. This either means it's a stonking deal now or that they have had trouble shifting the car for some reason. It could be a great deal but if they tell you they haven't had the car for long, forewarned as they say is forearmed!

That’s the fella - not sure what I did with the link! They don’t seem to advertise any warranty which is a bit of a concern, but it’ll be one of the things I speak to them about.

That’s interesting it’s been with them for so long - I was looking pre-Christmas and saw it then, but I’ve been flitting between an M6 and Chimaera 500 for ages!

Appreciate the insight thumbup

So it’s the NSR parking sensor that’s failed. It stopped working again last night so I checked all and it’s clearly not ticking.

I’ll get a new one sourced.

Go for a gen BMW one as pattern ones often don’t work.

Yes I’ll not be cutting corners here. I think I have detected another dodgy one as it was noticeably less strong a ticking it was giving. For the sake of buying two I may just replace it too. It also happens to be black but not painted black so I’ll have both painted.

Been looking at M6 for sale for the past year, do you think they have hit bottom of the depreciation curve or not yet?

I would say that they probably aren’t going to depreciate much further from
Where they are as the sum of their parts gives them a decent intrinsic value for breakers so that will support the bottom value somewhat.
Good ones will always fetch a bit of a premium as the cars get older and fewer.

I bought as a daily driver with a nod to investment value or at least lack of depreciation. I would say that the car has not depreciated any more than 5% this year of at all and even then that’s really only the margin that was paid to the motor trader.

I think there's definitely two groups - ones that have high mileage / look like they have been spanked and ones that have had an easier life and have obviously been cherished. I think the former may still drop some more because they are a somewhat dangerous proposition if you don't have a decent repair reserve in the bank as they can be a bit of a headache. Looking at YouTube footage of people donutting their M6s or showing off launch control to friends made me very wary when I bought mine.* I'm sure I paid over the odds but I wanted a FBMWSH and as low a mileage as possible so I could guarantee I would be able to put a Mondial warranty on the cars. I'm not in the least scared of putting the required money into the car for whatever it needs to make sure its maintenance is just right, I just want a backstop in case of a really serious bill and this would be covered by the warranty.

  • In the same way as I was much attracted to James's car with pictures of it obviously having a very pampered life cruising around Knightsbridge and entering various 5* abodes in the likes of Biaritz and Cannes. He pipped me to the post, however! smile
