Nope doesn't turn over at all.

I did check that it was in P....

It turns out it is the battery after all. Started first time using the battery from the 205. Which surprised me as it is about half the size! Shall need to invest in a battery charger...
Phew!
During lockdown #1 I bought a CTEK charger for each car and, as backup, a LiOn jump starter pack. Not had a problem since smile

Is there a DIY way of checking the health of a battery ie to tell if it needs a charge or replaced?

I don’t think so. Plug a CTEK 5.0 in to it and it will tell you.

Hmm if I am going to have old cars on my driveway perhaps a CTEK 5.0 is a decent investment, even if it tells me I need a new battery anyway ...

A Car Battery Analyser with CCA Mode, about 20 quid.

Oh dear, another dilemmalaugh
Analyser tells you battery fine, just needs charging scratchchin
I don’t know if an analyser tells you any more or different than a CTEK to be fair!

Cold cranking amps, i don't think a CTEK tells you,as you need to test the battery under load. A multimeter will show voltage drops but need a decent one as the volt drop won't be recorded on cheaper model as the time it takes in milliseconds. Need to fully charge battery first before testing.

if you are in the AA they can do it free.

My first thought was battery, although sounds like you’ve already solved the problem. There seems to be a fair few owners in the same boat over on the 75/ZT Help Group FB page, obviously common at this time of year with the colder temperatures, probably exacerbated this year with various lockdowns/restrictions/WFH and thusly the cars being parked for longer. I’m keeping an eye on mine, a cold start having been sat for a day or two seems to have the starter motor turning over a couple of revolutions longer than normal. Then again, it is near as damn it freezing out there, but may replace the battery next year as a precaution anyway.

The CTEK arrived today and I've just plugged it in to charge the battery in my utility room.

Can anyone confirm that this is not a dreadfully stupid thing to do i.e. charge it outside the car and inside my house?

I don't want to run an extension lead and leave the charger exposed to the elements / scroats on my drive.

Charging it inside will be fine. Just make sure the room is well ventilated.

And it's alive! Charging worked wonders. No need for new battery. Re-sult. (Let's hope it stays charged).

Annnnnnd its dead again (last drove it Sunday afternoon last week, albeit only a short journey). Might be new battery time after all...

I've extended the leads on my ctek, it stays in the utility, enough length (20m) to reach a quick release plug in the car.

On a different car I have manager to fit the extension lead under the closed garage door and then fit the reel and the charger under the closed bonnet. If you can do that then you can just leave it on charge at the moment.

That’s what we do with the ungaraged car.

The 75 has developed a really annoying rattle/ticking behind the dash, seemingly only when cold and only when the climate control is turned on. It seems to be from behind the instrument cluster, and does not seem to be from the engine but rather inside the car. I haven't managed to pin down the problem from a bit of Googling ... any ideas?!

I had that for a few months on my previous one, then it simply stopped doing it and never returned .
