Great thread I hope you keep it going, love that it started with the mini and has moved on.
Ha cheers, hoping to keep it going, see what this year brings, can't justify swapping it yet as it's such a useful car.

I noticed these have started going under a grand for pre-facelift models with the 1.8 in them. It's a shame I'm not currently in need of a shed.

Looks like scrap prices are coming down??

Did a WBAC valuation just for fun, this was obviously without them seeing it, and destroying it with the visual checks biggrin

I really think I will run this into the ground, or if anything goes seriously wrong with it.

....well, I caved in 12 months not washed, the moss growing on the boot was becoming too comfortable, looks half presentable now tbh if you squint your eyes...

Been a good car over that time, I really can't believe £250 is what WBAC would offer me today, few more dents now seeing the light of day in that time, and now the dirt is now removed.

So far, my current calculations spreadsheet (NERD ALERT) including purchase price, tax, mechanicals/tyres etc, over 12 months of ownership it's coming in around (£169) per month the thing owes me.

The thing is I was watching Vectra 1.8 go through BCA auctions (which is where WBAC stuff mostly goes) and they were all going £1200+ upwards and that's before fees.

I just sold my Insignia to Manheim through AutoTrader and they paid £200 more than WBAC quoted before they destroyed it with visual checks.

Anyway you should keep it, I saw my first other Vectra C this morning since I've had mine, they used to be everywhere!

That's interesting, extreme mark up then it seems, which doesn't surprise me.

Yes, I can't justify chopping it in yet, would like another 12 months with it really, since having mine I have seen a few about on the roads tbh over the year, they just blend in so well anonymously, you can miss them.

Been a busy month so far for the Vecshed, another 400+ miles to add on next week, aswell as this weeks chunk! All over the place at the moment - lapping up the motorway miles nicely.

I did get nearly swayed the other day - saw a 2011 1.5dci Megane Sports Tourer locally, just thinking the VED (£20) and better MPG may be better with the way my mileage is creeping up quite abit in this Vauxhall - but, I am trying to stick to this, rather than sink £X amount into an unknown shed to go straight into front line service.....but those 1.5dci's do get a good rep I see.

The Mk3 Megane is a good car, I have one myself. And the 1.5 Dci is a decent, reliable engine with cheap road tax and high MPG.

However, I have just changed from a Mk2 1.5 Dci to a Mk3 1.4 TCE and the petrol engine is SO much smoother that I massively prefer it.

However, if I was doing serious mileage I would be tempted to go for a diesel as they are so much cheaper to run.

Yeah, I've have done the maths and it actually wouldn't make it any cheaper in the long run to swap...just yet, initial outlay plus other things, would take time to bring the monthly costs down with my "running on a shoestring" challenge with this Vec.

Look like cracking buys though the MK3 Megane like you have found out, seriously good value for money, same boat as the Vauxhalls I suspect, crippling depreciation and uncool badge...but all our gain!

Bang on 10,000 miles now since had the Vectra and had it serviced, and it's been superb (as a car).

So, it's booked in for oil/filter and think I am going to address the leaky rocker cover gasket too, needed doing for a while, and it's getting rather smelly as I think this is running down the exhaust, so eBay to the rescue - £40 all in!

Booked in on April, the only time the car will have any downtime I think, still quietly trooping along, will most like have another 800+ miles on between now and then.

Business as usual, was up in Edinburgh this week and across to North Wales, around 1,000 miles over two weeks on this thing now.

Going in for a service on Monday, thought would treat it for being so reliable "so far".

Needs some rear pads doing, and the cam cover is leaking quite abit now when I checked it in the Premier Inn car park up in Scotland, so that will be addressed.

Still have no qualms with keeping this going, just stuck some VED on it, so let's see how we go.

Another trip with work booked up to Edinburgh again in two weeks and then London the month after, but normal day to day stuff in between, absolutely piling the miles on this "rep classic" Veccy biggrin

I'm running a 2004 1.8 club pre facelift, i bought in 2006 for £7k which was dirt cheap at the time as a stop gap from a company car, it has never let me down not once so i keep running it.

What's really interesting is that the car is rust free I believe its a galvanized chassis and the bonnet is Aluminium I've got a dent on the front of the bonnet & its right back to bare aluminium been like that for years now. I think one of the wheel bearings is just starting to squeak.

Have changed the disks, brakes tyres etc. & front springs which both snapped at the same time. Replaced the timing and water pump and hatchback struts, aerial rubber. The nearest to a failure was the crankshaft position sensor, it was a bh to start but it did and got me home, fitted a £20 oem replacement. I'm looking at selling it & buying a £25k van which i doubt will be anywhere near as reliable.

Definitely done you well this hasn't it!

They do seem remarkably robust, especially the petrols. Good going, be a shame to sell it won't it, as I suspect it's worth absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things towards your van.

Always look forward to the updates.

Something rewarding about keeping older cars on the road.

Ha, I will keep the updates coming for all who are interested, there is some kind of satisfaction from just sticking the miles on such a cheap car, basically worth scrap!!

Was in for a service today, oil/filter and couple of pads.

Had some spark plugs stuck on it too, for the sake of £9, and what a difference it has made, feels alot more responsive (for what it is...), oil leak is also fixed too, knackered rocker gasket.

I think suspension work is on the horizon, but will wait to see what the MOT brings up in Sept.

Mileage is 137,100 as of today.

biggrin Happy to scrap it if needs be, still getting good quotes at the moment - a tool for sticking serious miles on, it is hitting the brief, just keeping it reliable (mechanically), as it still needs to get me around for my job.

Was going to ask what the mileage was on smile. Nice to hear it keeps ticking along and been used for long trips and everything else.

Did you take it to a garage fro a service or diy?

Noting that the headlights are a little yellow/cloudy. I have heard on numerous occasions that toothpaste works a blinder to sort this, with it's abrasive properties. I can't promise anything, but a quid for a cheap tube could be worth a punt?
