Hi all

Mini update for you all.....

The weight of the tow bar assembly and exhaust are staggering! Getting lighter bit by bit!

Brakes have arrived just need time to fit them, they really are huge! (glove for reference)

And with the mud guards off, you can start the see the huge 315 rear tyres! biggrin

Having driven the car around a little this week, progress is good but the gearbox is not very race car, its a lot better when put into Manuel mode but the sequential shiftier is the wrong way round for a race car! strangely you push it forward to shift up? Anyway, there is only one thing for it.....paddles!! so yesterday we ordered some on ebay, even better, they are from our sister brand jaguar. We have also found paddle extenders which will make them look even more race car! We are optimistic we can just wire these to the switches currently in the gear selector stalk and away we go!

Thanks again for all the comments and ideas we are getting! I'm fairly sure someone on here already mentioned paddles. So much to do, so little time! There is also a mini video of what she sounds like on our instagram and facebook page.

You might find that simply switching wires around on the gearstick allows you to reverse the direction needed to change (as they are basically just a switch)

It's a common thing on BMWs (paddles and actual shifter)

Is it just me, or doesn't it look like those tyres are on the wrong way round, so they'll sweep any water into the middle??

I'm probably wrong so feel free to point and laugh, but it doesn't look right

You're not wrong, if that's a directional tread, it's on backwards.

I would have thought you could sharpen up the gearbox, hopefully electronically. Is it a ZF box?

Think it is. 6sp.

The remap on mine certainly 'crisped it up'

If you need any more inspiration, this is how effective a diesel Discovery can be on track when a Ring Taxi driver is at the wheel - it's pretty impressive biggrin , and apparently on winter road tyres... https://youtu.be/XggmU0ks7kk
Haha good find, this was a pleasant watch

There’s a list of cars which would suit a v8 without question, an original mini for one! Needs no extra braking but a pair of wings instead yehee!! Oooh the fun!

Are the exhausts now pointing straight at the fuel tank?
Luckily not. They are pointing at the spare wheel well. The plastic tank is in front of the axle. All 88 litres of it.
Thanks. That's good news! The spare wheel well looks like the old Classic tank. They probably had some left over... biggrin

Hmmm......I think something is missing!
Yes. A significant amount of factory corrosion protection.

What were LR thinking letting these go out with so little to stop them dissolving?
Rear arch lips go rusty from stones from the road - the plastic liner doesn’t go right to the edge, therefore the last 1” is vulnerable.
Yet look around it’s predecessor the p38 and you wont find any rust - so for a while at least, they knew how to do things right.

If you can lower the seats, and then chop the roof, that would be amazing (and lower CoG a bit too)

For the roll cage it would be great for you to link up with Urchfab. He customises cars and is a fantastic fabricator and has his own YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/Urchfab{url/}

That's also a Discovery commercial. Note the blanked rear window switches and barrier visible in the rear view mirror. A little lighter than a normal discovery.
